On behalf of Spot. I believe Spot enjoys coming to Meridan Dog Park. He never turns the opportunity to play with other dogs down. Always filled with excitement, leaves very satisfied and exhausted. A big plus.
There are 3 fields, two of which remain open while the third stays in rotation (Small breeds weighing below 25lbs are in one, while large breeds 25lbs and above are in the other.)
The fields are gated and each have their own drinking station (a dog bowl and two water fountains for adults and children.) There is a gated shower station in the middle accessible from the middle, right and front of the dog park. During the Winter, the water is turned off.
The shade is limited to the trees surrounding the edges of the dog park, 3 benches to sit from in all gated fields. Each field has it's own gated enclosures to allow you to unleash your dog before getting into the field.
There are potty bag receptacles at each entrance as well as three trash bins. The unfortunate thing is they are only at the entrances so it's best to grab a few to be prepared when your dog does the deed.
Busy times are mornings between 6-12 and evenings 5-9, typically during the week. Weekends can differ. Weather/Temperature greatly impacts these time frames. I'm usually part of the morning crew.
Dog owners are friendly like their counterpart 4 legged bestfriends. I'm usually having a conversation with one of them or a group of them. Dogs seem to enjoy themselves or when the crowd is light dog owners attend to their buddies. Great people to meet and chat with.
The upkeep at this park is prettt good. They mow it, empty the trash, clean up around the place. Parking is limited to about 10 regular spots and two handicap.
The following may be an issue if your dog likes to get dirty, but with proper supervision, you can limit the possibility of your dog getting dirty.
The downside to this Dog Park is, there are a couple muddy areas in each field. The left field has two large muddy areas, by the drinking fountain and under the trees in the far left backside of the field. Two smaller muddy areas in the underside and behind the benches halfway on the sides of the left field.
The middle field has one large muddy area by the drinking fountain. One small patch halfway towards the right side and two under and behind the benches.
The right field has one large muddy area around the bench on the left side of the right field. This is the optimal preferred field by most dog owners.
All in all, I believe Spot rates the Meridan Dog Park 4 out of 4 paws with a spontaneous wagging of his tail.
Nitpicking There could be more shade(awnings or covered benches), more potty bag receptacles and trash bins throughout the Dog Park so it's not a long walk to the front of the Dog Park. More parking surrounding the fields. The muddy areas (by the drinking stations) to be covered more permanently than temporarily.
Last words, Spot & I, look forward to our next visit. Wonderful people and...
Read moreI’ve never been to a dog park before because I didn’t know Wichita even had one. With that being said, I’m no expert on dog parks.
However the park itself was gorgeous: very spacious and clean. They have one big area for dogs over 25 lbs and another area for dogs under. The park also has pooping stations and trash cans which is why the park is neat. And another perk of this park is a fountain for you and your dog. The park management seems very reliable as well as they’re both organized and thorough in rules (which I find very useful).
Overall this park was great. My dog enjoyed every minute of it and I got to meet other dogs and owners. Will be coming back again...
Read moreThis was my first time brining my dog to this park. When we arrived there was 3 other dogs and their parents. Eventually 4 more dogs and their parents came. All dogs got along wonderful together except 2 brown pit/mixes. The 2 pit/mix dogs would team up and attack a husky. While the parents only tried to call the dogs off the husky. After not succeeding in getting them off the husky they eventually had to physically pull the dogs apart. This event kept happening to many times that all dogs and owners had to go to different areas letting these 2 pit/mixed have their own fenced in space. Thank goodness there was 3 different fenced in...
