I was so excited when I learned Rio Bravo was coming to my neighborhood. All I could think about was the great kitchen. I was excited about eating in, and about carrying out prepared dishes. I love to bring home their tamales, for example. Imagine my disappointment to learn that they put in a shadow of their store on South Seneca . NO KITCHEN.

Sure it's a good store. They have a great bakery, but we already have a great bakery in the neighborhood. Sure they are better stocked and have better produce selection than the other neighborhood Mexican markets. But we have several adequate Mexican markets in the area. Sure they have a great meat section. But the one thing that makes their stores stand out is the KITCHEN.

When I first told my son, who lives in Lawrence, we were getting a Rio Bravo Supermarket in the neighborhood, he started raving about the food in the original Rio Bravo store in Kansas City. "You'll be so lucky to be so close to their kitchen."

So, when you ask me about the North Amidon Rio Bravo Supermarket, all I can say is...

I’ve only been here 3-4 times, but each time, we leave very happy! First off, all the employees I’ve come across have been friendly. Secondly, their marinated meat isn’t only good quality (tender and good cuts) but it’s also very well marinated. Definitely the best marinated meat we’ve bought in a very long time. And third, today we tried their cooked foods and were impressed. My little ones were devouring the chicken, including my picky 2 year old and semi-toothless 11 mo old. It’s so delicious and tender and juicy. Their tacos were also great, we were honestly expecting small tacos. We’re making this place our weekly Friday dinner spot ❤️ Can’t wait to try some of...

I wouldn’t recommend buying from their meat department. Went by there today to purchase meat and caught an employee dropping meat on the store floor and picking it up putting it out to be sold with the other meat… I spoke with manger explained what a witnessed! & left without buying anything and I will be contacting the healthdepartment… apparently that’s what they allow otherwise the guy wouldn’t feel that was OK to do for just this day with other employees and customers around to watch… so nasty and a absolute...
