For the longest time taking my son to a park has been a hassle. Nothing is ever wheelchair accessible and it's really awful. Special needs children should be able to enjoy things that other children do. You never know the feeling until you actually have a child with special needs. So the fact that this park actually built a special needs section is unbelievable and so amazing. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is because some children can't get out of the wheelchairs. Luckily my son is blessed enough to be able Get out of his wheelchair and move his legs a certain amount and hopefully walk one day. But some children don't have that luxury and this park doesn't do much in terms of children that are not able to leave the wheelchairs. Also, the park is half handicap accessible and half not handicap accessibe (example There's climbing things that I don't really understand how handicapped child could climb on something maybe I'm wrong)But other than that I totally love this. I wish they would build this in every city. It sucks having a drive to Wilkes-Barre 30 minutes away from my house just so my son could be able to use the park whoever thought of this park is truly an angel. Thank you very much for considering children with special needs and making their lives more...

It's the end of October and the temperature is in the high 70's, the sun is shining . The playground is full of kids swinging on swings, others doing the jungle gyms. Softball tournament in the front field baseball game in back, Soccer game is gaining fans and the match in the tennis courts sound intense. The food on the grill in the pavilion behind me might get an uninvited guest today it smells so good, the other 3 pavilions are taken by a variety of people enjoying this late October day,you would t 4his was the fourth of July. Dogs running with their owners, one playing frisbee and another nipping at the kids on the swing. Surprised to see the upkeep of the restrooms so late in the year,I thought they would be out of toilet paper at least, but it even smells good in there , definitely not a bad place to spend a saturday ,...the...

I love to run/walk here but sometimes it can be annoying. People in groups walk side by side and take up the whole path a lot and there's steep hills on both sides, just something to be aware of. This is really just a nice peaceful place to go to alone (not at night) or with a group of friends. There is a track, softball & baseball fields, tennis courts, enough room to play a game of football or kickball, soccer. You can also have a blanket picnic or use a pavilion table. There's also a playground for children. There is a decent size pond that I've seen kids fishing in but it's not taken care of very well so proceed cautiously. You can take your leashed pet here and there are dootie bags and trash bins. Wi-Fi and Port-a-johns are available, I've never used either so I can't comment on them. Lastly,...

I thoroughly enjoy coming to this park. The scenery is serene. It’s so close to the River commons. It’s an easy walk from Wilkes-Barre into Kingston. The biggest pro is walking the dike up to Edwardsville shopping areas and coming back down and over, crossing into the River Commons. I enjoy the pond and having a picnic with my children. Its very dog friendly, they have stations to assist. They also have a lot of trash cans and always have it cleaned and maintained. But I do feel they can update the playground area. And maybe patrol more often, a lot of the less fortunate people set up shop under the pavilions. Some cause scenes and ruin the property as well. It’s still an amazing park and a good place to visit. (Attached photos from over the years)

Kirby Park is beautifully maintained and is thriving with life. The squirrels are very active and playful in the old growth trees that are throughout the park. There is a trail that circles the entire park with hills on both sides. A playground for the children. Multiple places to host gatherings. Volleyball nets in the summer as well as tennis courts. A pond that often has ducks and geese as well as some small minnows. The rest of the park is a lot of open space and grassy areas which give a lot of space for running around or open play.

Kirby is great for sports, taking a walk, having a birthday outside in nice weather, and the playground for kids. It's also where I got engaged so it holds a special place in my heart. Oh, that reminds me, beautiful photo ops! Porta-poties throughout so if you have to you can go, and during the nice weather months, the food shack is open for drink and food purchases. I just wish the pond was cleaner. If it were taken care of and clean, this place would be beautiful. I'm afraid if you'd fall in, you'd come out with extra parts.
