I’m originally from the area, and needed a place to spend the evening after attending a wedding. I found this place online - and initially thought most of the reviews were fake. They’re too perfect. But - THEY’RE NOT FAKE. This place really is that great.||Cecilia and Gordon were very kind and helpful, and the venue is basically a restored victorian area (?) mansion. It was clean, comfortable, and very charming. More towels than you usually get at even the nicest hotels - and the room was very nice. The staircase was my favorite part of the house - really lovely. We could have spent a day just exploring the house really. The bed was very clean and relatively new. The room was furnished uniquely and was extremely comfortable and cozy.||It is like most older homes - the electrical system can be a bit touchy. Sometimes us walking across the floor seemed to make the lights flicker. Very minor - but something to note. The only thing that was a downside for me - was the shower. It was clean and had great water pressure - but it was very small (maybe people were smaller back when the house was built ?). I had a difficult time soaping up my body because I literally could not find any space that wasn’t under the shower stream. To fix this - I would recommend changing the showerhead. If a showerhead that had more lateral movement was installed, folks could aim the water flow at the wall while soaping up, then turn it onto them when rinsing. ||But - that’s all really splitting hairs. The place was awesome, and the hosts nailed the experience. I’ve already recommended the place to my own family, and I’ll probably be back myself in the future.||Thanks for having us...
Read moreWe stayed at this convenient B&B one night recently on our way from New Hampshire to Maryland. Arriving in the evening, we needed advice as to restaurants that might be still open. Gordon and Cecilia were quick to tell us of places to choose from (including Istanbul, a wonderful Turkish place where we had eaten on a previous trip) and called to be sure we would still be able to get a table. No problem! ||The house is a beautiful and tastefully decorated mansion from the 1860s. The bed was comfortable in our room, which featured the high ceilings typical of the times. ||Breakfast was terrific with Eggs Benedict, fruit, and pastries.||The hosts are friendly and well informed about local history, as they are from Wilkes-Barre. We talked at length about the coal mines that brought wealth to the area - and about the end of the mines when they flooded in the 20th century, bringing death and destruction to people's lives and livelihoods. Gordon showed us a "Davy Lamp," named after its British inventor, which replaced the canaries that indicated the presence or absence of oxygen. Both hosts were delightful conversationalists, and we much enjoyed learning more about the whole region around Wilkes-Barre and why the city's name is pronounced the way it is (Wilkes and Barré, pronounced like berry), after two members of the English parliament who voted to allow the American colonies to be free from English rule. We heartily recommend the B&B and its two...
Read moreHorrible customer service. We made reservations well in advance for New Years Eve 2021 due to attending a concert at the Kirby Center and wanting to stay within walking distance so we could enjoy ourselves at the concert and just walk back to our room. We kept getting pressed as to our arrival time. We advised that we weren't sure as I had a minor heart attack and didn't know when I was being released from the hospital on the day of our stay. At no point did we say that we were not coming and our reservation was prepaid. The owner, stating that they were not ADA compliant, up and cancelled our reservation without even bothering to pick up the phone and talk to us about it. I had no restrictions. I was perfectly capable of going up stairs. Our seats were actually in the balcony at the Kirby Center. As we were unable to find an available room within walking distance on short notice for New Years Eve, we ended up driving the hour and a half home after the concert. I reached out to the owner this year prior to booking our stay. I received no apology, and no assurances that she wouldn't up and cancel our reservation again so we aren't staying there again this year and will stay at the Best Western from now on if we go to an event at the Kirby Center. Beware and have a back up plan if you are planning on staying here. It's just not...
