We love biking in this area, fishing off the banks of the Potomac and now that the kids are older, running. We have been several times and the weekends are definitely the most congested. On one trip we did take the small boat out on the tour which was nice to get the history of the area from a guide. The Jr Park Ranger program is alive and well here which also helps us stay focused (lots of younger kids)- during Cana days we have gone through some of the historic buildings. Note: biking with four young children means carrying five bikes over the bridge to get to the other side- if you have multiple kids just consider that first😉 port a potty’s near the parking area the last time we used this area; boat ramps also nearby.
