This museum is a real hidden treasure, and worth the time to visit. Concentrating on Humboldt County and Winnemucca history, it is a snapshot of the old west, and the tough people who settled it. You will find such diverse things as prehistoric fossils, local Basque culture (one of my favorites), Native American History, and antique autos and farm equipment. There is also an original small chapel that has been moved to the site, and a replica mercantile store and home from the past, with many interesting items from the past. There is also a section on a historic Chinatown that is no longer a part of Winnemucca. It is all tidy, organized, and we'll run. And at least on the day I was there, it was free. I gladly gave a donation for them to continue running sush a...

If you are a tourist or a resident here, this is a must see museum. Old cars, artifacts of days gone by, even Mammoth Bones discovered from an archaeological dig! Filled with facts, and Photographs, easy to follow in a logical layout. Our museum is a GEM! It has developed into a collection of old build buildings being restored to Authenticity. The Centerpiece is a Modern Brick Structure Set back on the property. This is a two story building with a Piano and a Relaxed Atmosphere. A Great Place to meet Up and Learn about This Town originally Called "Frenchman's Forge", and now Called Winnemucca after...

Must visit if you wish to learn more about "Frenchman's Ford", Chief Winnemuca, Sarah Winnemuca, Western Pacific Railroad, ranching, gambling in Nevada or Basque culture. My Humboldt Museum visit was a trip to my past and I recommend it to anyone with an an hour or more (I was pulled away by an appointment on a Friday afternoon or I would have stayed longer!). Hats off to the staff and the community for supporting this gem. I was inspired to donate a picture from my grandfather's store taken...

Great experience all around. The receptionist is very kind and the exhibits are interesting. Exhibits, automotive history and native American history dominate most of the space. I highly recommend checking out the three buildings in the back that have been relocated to the museum. The old house is filled with appropriate era furniture and daily household items.

Great place with history of not only Winnemucca but life in the 1800s and also about the native people here. Never knew of the French “scorched earth” program until I visited this museum. Just wish it was open Sunday, I visit to drag race and usually only have Sunday open but this time the race was canceled so I had a free Saturday.
