In fairness, I have already made a review for this establishment, however, this note is a most necessary follow-up. Reviews for accommodations should serve these purposes: praise to the owner where it is warranted, constructive criticism and impression for fellow travelers to reflect on. Please refer to my previous review (different account, same name) and more importantly look at the owner's reply. I welcome anyone to look at my reviews on either account: seldom do rate a motel/hotel less than three stars and never just one. Truth is most important; I will oppose any force that tries to twist it. I was accused of coming to this motel because “the rest of the town was sold out.” I planned this trip, a twenty-day cycling tour, months in advance and knew making a booking for Winnemucca would not be necessary for the many choices and low prices. I rode straight up to Scott Shady Court for it was an older motel where one can usually get a good deal; it was my first choice. I asked if a room was available and may have been given a choice of a room with one or two beds, King vs. Queen. Being alone, I chose what was simpler. I must say that Scott Shady has a really nice lobby; I expected the room to be given the same amount of attention. I insist that I was never offered a cheaper rate for taking a lesser quality room. I was never informed that “it was not one of our nicest rooms." It's a case of he-said-she-said. I let the casual observer decide. You see, when you create a false story, one needs to make another lie to cover the first and another to cover the previous and so on. In the end the creator of this false story loses track of all the points made. The owner's claim: I was getting “the only room I had left” “it was not one of our nicest rooms,” BUT I WAS GIVEN A CHOICE, “instead of wanting a two queen for $10 more.” Sorry, you can't have it both ways, and you can't walk that back. That evening it appeared that only some %25 of the rooms were occupied, least some %75 of them were not available for being under renovation. I had ridden 197 miles that day from Eureka and against the wind all the way from Carlin. I really wanted to relax in the bath, but not with all that rust; it was revolting. I'm not claiming the tub was filthy, only it was impossible to be sure it was truly clean. Going out to get something to eat I was tempted to check on one of the other motels on the main road, which I knew would be, at worst, the same price and many cheaper. I was bushed and decided that it just wasn't worth it. I never checked on any others, but I find it highly unlikely that any were fully booked, let alone the whole town. Was it necessary to insult my intelligence? Is it necessary to insult the intelligence of the casual observer planning a stay in Winnemucca? The owner claims: “if you stayed with others versus us the price would have been $195 to $250.” I check the prices of all hotels in town on the weekend in August, not one is more than $200. There are five listed lower than $75 and another two, not priced, likely lower. Are you going to insist the demand in June is that much higher? For months I checked up until a week before and it all looked the same as it does now. Do you really claim that many people visiting Nevada pass up the great deals in Laughlin, Vegas and Reno to flock to that Mecca in that high desert at Winnemucca and pay premium? How does someone with a room like that get an average of better than four stars on Google maps? Honestly, I believe that some those rooms must be well remodeled and nice. Is it just me, but have you noticed so many of the accounts that have given “Shady” five stars have but a single review? Do you see that by other hotels? I'm not being vindictive. I really want Scott Shady Court to be successful, but I want it to be built on honesty. There must be some nice rooms, but I advise any first-time guest to have a look at the room first. Just for kicks ask to have a look at Santa Lucia, just to keep the owner...
Read moreThe tattered, shady billboard on the interstate was an omen. After driving 9 hours yesterday, I was looking forward to staying here yesterday based on the reviews. We experienced some issues driving but arrived around 6:20 pm. The front door was locked so I rang the bell. No answer and after a few moments I rang again. Still no answer so I tried number and it went to voicemail. I saw the owners private door (not marked private) and knocked on door. Owner yanks it open and asks why I’m pounding on his door. I said I’d like to check in and he goes “no vacancy!” I said that I have a reservation. He says the front door is unlocked and slams door in my face. I go back to front door as does he from inside. I tried door in front of him and guess what, still locked. He unlocks it and tells me that it’s not a good way to start things by pounding on his door. We go round and round a few minutes about this before he takes key away and says that this “isn’t going to work “. I certainly don’t feel that I was in the wrong and didn’t warrant this treatment toward me. I like to support small business owners but if his behavior is like this all of the time, it’s no wonder the parking lot was empty as he isn’t worthy of supporting. Thank goodness for the Econolodge and the nice girl at...
Read moreWe have been staying at this motel for the last 35 years when it was ran by Mr. Scott and his family. We have found it to be an enjoyable and pleasant stay. Since the new ownership, we have called several times and no one answer the phone and we left message per the instructions so they could return our call. We never got a response. We drove directly to the motel to get a room, when we got there, the doors were lock and no sign on the door. We looked around to see if we could find someone to help us. We found a worker to help us and the manager came up. We told him that we had been calling and no one answered. He supplied various excuses for not calling back and why the office was locked up. He was extremely rude and belligerent and accused us of nosing around trying to find someone to open the office. It was a very unpleasant experience dealing with this person. So we left and found another motel which the price was comparable. The staff was very pleasant to work with. We have several of our friends that come here during hunting season and we will never recommend this motel again. Nor...
