We have been coming to winterset Iowa for the past 8 years to pick up groceries and do a little shopping. We had covered what we thought were all of the hidden gems to winterset as far as the shops, bridges and the John Wayne museum. We were not made aware of the park until I took the time to visitor chamber of commerce office about an event I was planning. The city park is another hidden gem. My wife and I hiked to the tower. Thoroughly enjoyed the view and also how nicely the park was laid out. What was a wonderful surprise is that the park is dog friendly. Of course you must pick up after them and they must be on a leash! All good things to maintain a wonderful Park experience for everyone. It has a wonderful large shelter so we actually ended up renting it for our social event. They also have RV camping and tent camping just adjacent to the City Park itself. Most definitely give this...

After a day of garage sailng at the Winterset City Wide Garage Sale on May 11, 2024, my friend and I, who had both come from out of town, took our cooler to the Winterset City Park to relax. It was a perfect day weather wise! There are shelter areas in which to eat if you need to get out of the sun or rain. We chose a shelter from which we could see a Hedge Maze, a Bocce Ball Court, one of the beautiful Covered Bridges of Madison County and lots of children, dogs and adults playing games. There is ample parking. The park also has nice restrooms. It was the perfect ending to a great day of treasure hunting! My friend and I did this last September 16th, when Winterset had their semi-annual City Wide Garage Sale. Their City Park is the perfect place to unwind after a wonderful but exhausting day. I'm very anxious to go again this fall and do it all...

An old favorite with a fabulous view. I have been coming here since childhood. With my sister visiting from Arizona we explored memory lane of 60 years ago at KDPS tower. However our visit was marred by a dog owner incident. Entering the lower level of the tower a leashed dog and owner stood by the base of the ladder. I requested she move the dog away from the ladder as I felt fearful of this very large dog in spite of her reassurance of its docile nature. She did not move it until I forcefully insisted. I was able to put it out of mind and enjoy this beautiful park in spite of feeling shaken and fearful from the encounter. Please owners remember not everyone loves your dog and some people in public spaces are fearfull due to insensitive negligent owners behaviors. It's not the dogs I hold...

This place is full of surprises. I went for the 2nd time today and discovered Clark Tower which is beautiful and provides dozens of photo opportunities. I'll be going back to try the hedge maze that I also noticed today as well. It just got dark before we could try. The hiking trails are very well maintained and most are bike and small car friendly. Its a pet friendly park also, as long as they are on a leash. There are a few playgrounds and restrooms. A cool little cabin and even a nice place to camp. Nothing but good things to say about this beautiful amazing park. A true hidden treat of Iowa.

Love to spend time in this park. The covered bridge is neat to look at. The rock bridge was used in the movie Bridges of Madison County. But the best is the narrow winding road that leads up the the tower. You can walk inside of the ground floor then venture up the rock steps that run around the outside to the second floor and look out the open style arched windows and if you are really adventurous you can crawl up to the very top of the tower from the second level, the ladder type steps are pretty much straight up. But the view from the top level is outstanding
