India in Style — Attraction in Woodlawn

The products in this store are fine and on par with other stores like it. The issues are one of service: lack of clarity with respect to policies. For example, all dresses are final sale. When we paid, our card was swiped, we signed the credit card receipt - and only then was the hand-written receipt was produced (which then said 'final sale'). It was not verbally mentioned that the sale was final.

They also advertise an online coupon worded as follows: "20% off on your first store purchase." That was us, first time there, first purchase. We found out, the coupon did not include sale items - which again should be made clear.

Store staff lack propriety when it comes to dealing with customers. When we attempted to exchange the dress we bought (not yet knowing the final sale policy), we were duly admonished by a women for not knowing the policy. We had to listen to 5+ minutes of angered blame and fury.

Clearly defined policies are the hallmarks of a good business. Right before our first visit to the store, another family came in and the man demanded that the store pay the 6% state tax on his purchase. After a while, the woman relented and paid it. So, things in the store are negotiable - it just depends...

"India in style" tried to charge me $700 for 3 outdated outfits for our first "Sangeet". When I refused she magically discounted 2 of the outfits but her options for a tall full figured woman like me were awful, so I took the chance buying online from another company instead, even though I was concerned with shipping time. I was much happier with the selections and products for 1/3 of cost compared to what India in style was charging. I wish I would have figured that out sooner.

The 2 outfits we had purchased from India in style were not very good quality. My husband's kyrta pajama didn't come with shoes and the alterations to attach the sleeves and take in my daughter's top was horribly done, even after she was measured in the store. My daughter also got a rash from the material.
