I went in last week to mail a prepaid package. I used UPS simple rate, where any package under 50 pounds ships for a flat fee depending on its dimensions. For some reason, the label always prints a random weight. This time it said 7 pounds. I asked the lady at the counter what the deal was with that, because it never even asks for a weight when you’re making the label. She informed me that because my package actually weighted 17ish pounds, I was going to be charged the difference. I responded that I used simple rate, but I was just asking why the label always prints with a random weight. She told me she didn’t know what simple rate shipping was, and again that I was going to be charged the difference. She also asked if I wanted a new label, but that the UPS store cannot honor any promotions or pricing that UPS.com does. Weird. I’ve used simple rate before with no issues, but here I was starting to second guess myself. Her explanation was “Well that’s UPS. We’re the UPS STORE. We’re different.” Uh… alright. She again warned me I’d be charged for the weight difference but I just gave up and took the gamble of shipping my package how it was. I ended up actually getting a REFUND from UPS.com because I overestimated the dimensions, lol! Even if the UPS store has different pricing than the website, the employees should be able to speak knowledgeably about what those prices/promotions are. Kind of strange that she hadn’t even HEARD of simple rate before. What a bizarre experience. 2 stars because the employees are otherwise typically kind and the process has otherwise always been quick...
Read moreIn general I prefer to The UPS Store for all of my shipping needs, I really haven’t had any bad experiences at any location. The Palos Heights branch takes the UPS Store to a whole new level! The staff is extremely courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. It is the type of place that the staff know you by name (even if you only go there a couple times a month). This “old” sense of community (that has been lost for decades in local businesses) has a multitude of benefits. Aside from the fact that it is nice “to be known”. The staff looks out for their customers. A number of times the staff have gone above and beyond for a family member of mine when they knew that there was something wrong. Thank You UPS...
