Homestead Modern — Attraction in Yucca Valley

This is the second year at this beautiful little house! The owners of the house didn't know that Homestead Modern was neglecting their little cottage. I want to make that clear!!! With that being said, during our stay we had to clean several things, scrub the dining room tablel , clean the dishwasher trap so we had clean dishes, rerun all the dishes and silverware back through. Wipe down the dirty shelves they were sitting on! Since things were so bad we thought, let's clean the toilets just to make sure! But the sheets were clean! The outside plants were randomly died off. And last year they were so lush and pretty!! I complained and did get a free night Yes wonderful! But then I had to clean out the master drain, OH MY GOODNESS!! I lost it! Mind you the drain is as wide as the shower and an inch deep. You couldn't fit any more hair in it, it was so full. Obviously hadn't been cleaned in months... Then you wonder what else hadn't they cleaned "YUCK" I called, told them what I had to do and how very upset I was! And that I wanted to leave them the several cups of hair that I had to clean out of the drain while in my birthday suit! I wanted a partial refund, I thought that was fair. They called back and said, "IF I CALL AGAIN, THEY WILL SUE ME FOR EXTORTION!!! I said, what!!!

I just wanted to leave a note for the potential guests looking at my comments! The following post from Homestead is incorrect and a complete falsehood. They are just trying to cover their butts!!! I speak only the truth and always give praise when it is due, always! Yes it is true we received an extra night. It is also true that we had to clean the house ourselves. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words!!! That is why I posted the pictures of all the gross matted hair in the hair trap and the gross food pieces in the clogged up drain in the dishwasher. There were other things we dealt with that I didn't mention. Because I thought why keep going on and on!!! Homestead Modern doesn't know me or my sister. I do not live in Yucca Valley. If you do the same sort of deep dive research that I do before booking a vacation, you'll probably already be aware that a lot of the 1 star review ratings on Google are from some YouTuber who was sketched out by the desert and encouraged his fan base to leave bad reviews. I actually watched his video review and it literally seemed to boil down to him not understanding that the desert is remote and undeveloped in parts.

On to my review, we stayed at Trail's end modern for 3 nights. It was a great vacation and the home was wonderful. This is the second rental I've stayed at in the desert, with the first being featured in Dwell magazine, and I think I liked this place better overall. It was cleaner and had reliable internet the entire time we were there. We ran into a few things while there:

the hot water wasn't working, but they sent someone out within 2 hours of us notifying them of the problem and they were able to fix the error message flashing on the heater. Before they sent someone out they gave me the chance to try to resolve the issue myself in the breaker closet which I actually really appreciated since the whole point of these vacations is privacy. Hot water worked the rest of our stay.

it looks like the cowboy tub might have a slight leak in the drain, which makes it hard to follow the "fill once and leave filled" policy for your stay. Luckily we only used the tub the last day but just be aware it might not stay filled for long. Also just be aware that bees are desperate for water in the summer so it can be a bit of a battle with them.

the handle for the trash drawer snapped off the drawer on our last morning there and I felt kinda bad about it but it just slipped straight off while I was using it. I let them know so hopefully that'll be resolved quickly. I think it was just glued on anyway.

But really overall this place was the perfect midday and nighttime base station when it got too hot to be outside hiking and enjoying the desert.

Oh, I will note that there seems to be an issue with the auto logout feature on their tv that they advertise. Someone else was still logged in to all the available streaming platforms! We logged some...

Terrible experience. I don’t recommended this property nor any of the management company’s properties unless you want your vacation ruined. Came here for 3 days 2 nights on a birthday trip planned for my girlfriend. Upon arrival, water heater was broken and giving an error code, so we could not shower for the first night and first 2 days due to freezing water below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Upon complaining, the management company Homestead Modern was not accommodating until we kept pushing and asking for a refund. They finally offered an extra night stay, which was accepted. Later during the second day the property manager came to investigate the water heater issue. We were told that he would be in and out of the property, so my girlfriend and I left because who wants to be bothered even more after the inconvenience, when the vacation trip was booked for some alone time. Upon returning to the property once the manager left, the issue was still not resolved and we were told a plumber would be coming even later in the day. Once again, we wanted alone time and were inconvenienced further. The shower drain then revealed to be clogged. We didn’t even get to be inside the property for the morning of our second days stay. Apparently, this plumber was some sort of “trusted vendor” who told them something (still confused what was said), and after he left the property we were told by the management company that our extra night offer was rescinded and we could not receive a refund as well. This completely ruined my girlfriends birthday trip and I have no one to blame but them. Lesson learned is don’t trust old reviews. DO NOT BOOK HERE OR AT ANY OF HOMESTEAD MODERN’S...
