Hands down the best restaurant we went to in Phu Quoc. Best meal and really lovely staff. It’s a Japanese charcoal grill located in the city, the owners put so much thought into the place to make it hip and the menu to encapsulate the ingredients of Phu quoc with their interesting take. They are the same owners of the speakeasy bar next door, and started the evening with their “homemade” mint umeshu, at the recommendation of the lovely staff. They speak amazing English. We had their best seller to start- the grilled beef meltique striplion, boy ……. The dish melts in your mouth and was simply AMAZING - salivating as I write and think about it. We then had their skewer trio which had pork, chicken, beef, bacon, veggies and squid. The squid and pork was amazing. We then moved to the Australian strip loin but it could not compete with the first Japanese striploin we had. For sides we got a seared beef salad which was amazing and the crush cucumber which was refreshing and crunchy. The grilled abalone was also fresh, reasonably priced and very well seasoned. The gyoza cake with an extremely tasty sauce. Some misses included their chicken wings, beef udon - udon was too sweet, had to add soy and sake and some chili flakes to make it to our taste. We ended the mains with their signature ramen dish which was very interesting. For dessert we got the panna cotta which came in a customized cracked egg dish, and a nest saucer - great presentation. The panna cotta was topped with fresh fruits. Amazing night and highly...
Read moreHiên - Charcoal Kitchen in Phú Quốc lives up to its hype with a solid 4.7-star rating from over 400 reviews. The restaurant stands out for its 100% charcoal cooking, which lends a distinct smokiness to its dishes. The menu is a creative blend of Western and Asian flavour, heavily influenced by Japanese cuisine, and artistically presented. A highlight is the melt-in-your-mouth grilled Wagyu A5 striploin, while the hibachi skewers—featuring a mix of meat, seafood, and vegetables—are crowd-pleasers. One of the more inventive dishes is a Carbonara-inspired noodle: ramen tossed in rich tonkatsu sauce, topped with tender beef slices and a perfectly cooked onsen egg. Surprisingly, the gyoza stole the show—juicy dumplings paired with a tangy soy-based dipping sauce that left us wanting more.
Prices are amazingly affordable: two pieces of tender grilled Abalone on the half shell dented our wallet by S$4! The drink selection is equally impressive, ranging from wines and sake to unique cocktails. We tried one of their house-made umeshu blends, a refreshing mix of vodka, kumquat, lime leaf, peppermint, and pepper—definitely a standout. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with rustic wooden furnishings and an open-kitchen setup that lets you enjoy the cooking action. Hiên is hands-down the best meal of our getaway...
Read moreWe had one of our most memorable meals on the island at this lively, dinner-only hotspot. Craving a hearty, high-quality meat feast, we couldn’t have picked a better spot! The restaurant offers a charming mix of indoor and outdoor seating, attentive service, and an impressive menu that caters to every craving.
We treated ourselves to an indulgent spread, starting with charcoaled edamame—simple yet packed with flavor—followed by fresh scallops and tender baby abalone. The beef salad added a refreshing twist, but the star of the show was undoubtedly the melt-in-your-mouth A5 wagyu—pure perfection!
To complement the meal, we paired it with a smooth Argentinian red wine, elevating the experience even further. And the best part? The price was surprisingly reasonable for such top-notch quality.
If you’re in the mood for exceptional meat and seafood, this place delivers both...
