Beaches Apartments — Hotel in Byron Bay

Recently spent a week at Beaches Apartments in Byron for our sons wedding, & could not have been more pleased. The upstairs single room apartment was clean, with fresh, modern appliances and presentation, the bed comfy and the amenities perfect. We loved the spaciousness of the balcony area overlooking the sparkling clean pool/bbq area, surrounded by palm trees. It gave a nice tropical/holiday vibe. Linen was fresh and clean, and the underground car park & access to the apartment complex was secure (via key access). The office was closed upon our arrival, but we received an SMS advising us how to access the lock box, which had an envelope with our key/welcome pack. Even more impressive was our other son and his partner had a last minute issue with their pre-arranged accomodation- so they rang, and were accommodated immediately with another apartment in the complex with minimum fuss, and pleasant service. Wonderful! Our only issue (albeit minor complaint), is the access in/out of the secure car park requires a key/lock to open & close the security gate…where a remote fob would be more efficient. Extremely disappointed. The accommodation was nothing like what was advertised online. The mat was stained and dirty, pots and pans had old food stuck to them, the furniture was old and dirty. Shower had black mould, air conditioning unit was rusted. We stayed three nights and were only given 2 coffee sachets, no face washers, the kitchen was definitely not well equip. 2nd last photo shows the inside of the kettle which was filled with scum. Reception was never open and all emails and phone calls were ignored. Posting photos on here to warn others that the images shown online are not always what you get. Not only this- we were charged 4.5% to pay via card (which was the only way to pay). That meant we paid an extra $30 just in that. For $500 a night this accommodation is pretty poor and it looks nothing like in the pictures. It’s very dated. It’s poorly equipped. Most apartments like this would have a small amount of washing liquid for the dishes and the washing machine on site, as well as two or three toilet paper rolls. Half a roll is what you get. On top, many things are broken. The pull out lounge for our daughter is falling apart, no extra bedding was set aside. We only received three towels, no hand towels or similar. The bedroom door does not close. Wifi keeps skipping out. The pool was pretty dirty when we arrived. The kitchen needs a revamp and, again, looks nothing like in the photos. The fridge does not cool properly. Iron is broken. It feels very cold as well. Pants and pots dirty....
