Quality certainly wasn't indicative of the price. The team was however extremely helpful in particular Tevor (sorry if I spelt this wrong) who was very inviting, up for a chat and was great at giving recommendations not only to me but to other customers. During my visit to Kinoko I had some sushi off the train, edamame and the chicken katsu curry. The sushi was nice and fresh the portions were a little small and being $6.50 for three small salmon rolls was an eye opener. The first thing that came out was actually the curry which I was quite surprised at since edamame is usually considered an entree and the fact I it waited a few minutes was unusual. It was my first time seeing the curry sauce being seperated from the chicken and rice probably because of the salad which came with it. The salad was fresh, sauce was good with plenty of carrot and potato but the chicken sorely lacked. The chicken was far too crumbed and with the fat present I could only taste the crumbs. Garlic soy edamame, thought I'd give it a shot since it was recommended. Not a personal fan but still enjoyed it, if you prefer more of a bar snack and love your beer definitely have the salt but if you're a bit more saucy and don't hate garlic definitely good to give it a shot. With everything I've said I'd still only give this place a 3 star. The staff were really welcoming and the atmosphere was agreeable however based on the food I was quite disappointed.

Very limited choice and that's fine so long as the limited choice is top notch, but it isn't. Very ordinary, and a top price is paid for 'ordinary.' I naively assumed if you were there for dinner and ordered from the menu it would be prepared fresh. I was a bit confused when the waitress advised me I could go inside and get more if I wanted more. Then, even though I'd ordered from the menu I was delivered plates from the train. Surely, if you're not going to prepare freshly, you could take the items off all the little plates and serve them, nicely arranged. If I'd wanted a sushi train I would've sat at it, or better still gone elsewhere with more choice. The chicken teriyaki main wasn't great, and the chicken was dry. The tobiko ship was very light on with roe. The spicy tuna nagiri was probably the highlight, but maybe just because it was a suitable helping for the money. The small spring rolls were mainly crispy pastry with a tasteless gloop inside. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Lovely customer service, friendly staff. I ordered the Sashimi donburi (raw fish sashimi with rice). It was fresh and delicious, they ran out of raw tuna which didn't bother me. The only disappointment was that the portion was rather small for the price ($24). I had to order more food as it didn't fill me. The plus is the Zuke soy sauce that the donburi came with. So as I was hungry I ordered more food and got the teriyaki chicken skewers. They were delicious, well flavoured and sorry didn't take a pic of it as I gobbled it down. Chicken was tender. Love their urakasumi jun mai sake too, good flavour. I normally prefer drier sake but this was very good too. Overall, nice deco and ambience, food and service.

The entire experience was a disgusting debacle. Simple two dish order - ramen bowl and salmon salad. Ramen delivered. After 20 minutes (and staff avoiding looking at me; one chatting to his girlfriend) I have to go to kitchen to ask where my partner’s salmon salad is. Told on its way. Five minutes later told given to another table (who ate it) and kitchen closed. You can choose sad unwanted few sushi train leftovers. No thanks, partner doesn’t eat rice; hence ordering kitchen meal. Basically staff couldn’t give a stuff. Partner, who lives with autism and has had a big day, breaks down in tears from exhaustion, hunger and frustration at being so disrespected. I then look up at lover boy (now back at till) who gives me this benign grin! I politely lose it and tell him it’s no laughing matter, and ask where the hell am I going to find food now? Eventually it turns out the kitchen can throw together a green salad and cook a piece of salmon. To be fair, the food was relatively okay, but the service was deplorable. Spare us the apology and offer to come back - we’re not interested. But for the sake of your future customers train your staff in basic competence and manners, and remind them they’re there to provide a service which people...

I have been coming to Kinoko for over ten years. The food is always great. Can’t fault it! Today, I know they were understaffed, it was busy, but the male (not Japanese) at the front of house was very indifferent and rude to my daughters and I. There was a lovely waitress who brought our food out. But there was no one to greet us when we walked in, no one seated us (we sat down on the first available table), no one brought us menus or checked on us the whole time we were there. There was not one sentence uttered to us the entire time. We had to ask for water at the front desk. I had to go back up again to the front to order our starters and then again for mains, and when I asked if there was table service all the guy said was “yes”. At the end of the meal, the guy showed me where to “tap” to pay, without even giving me a receipt to check over, he was really really bad. Really rude. I don’t want to go back again. There are so many amazing food options in Byron. This will no longer be an option for us. Disappointing that one sour person can ruin a...
