Such an unpleasant stay. I had tidied up the bed and the sheets by 7.17am, did some morning walk sightseeing Melbourne CBD. Came back to the hostel to pick up stuff, use their toilet and then return the key by 11.05. Yet the hotel very inhospitable hostel the owner was saying "you know, I have to see what time you hand me in the keys (while tapping her wristwatch). you have to leave everything by 11 o'clock" (with hand gesture shooing away)." Never ever I was harassed like that in my years history of backpacking. Geezzzz she's treating paying guest like a cattle??? Even reception area / pub still have "closed sign" up, is it that double standard???. If you want to be super strict in everything, then do it thoroughly. As if your hostel is without flaws: super small toilets that I believe had failed Australia Building Standards. Please peeps, I suggest do try other hostel, just a few dollars more expensive, but waaaayyyy better. almost all things in this hostel are inadequate. The only good one is the duvet and that the tissue paper in the toilet are available. But the rest...huff disappointing. The toilets are super small, can't even wash hand, without splashing wet the floor, it's so small that most of time it's stinks. I even couldn't be bothered to shower in this hostel. All hand soap, just an empty tub for a show, none of them refilled. The kitchen and laundry just jammed in one small room. All non-stick pans already have their non-stick layer scrapped totally, practically not safe to use. Guests foods are just placed on racks unnamed unorganised. Yet the owner expect guests to be ideal???? Oh please note, they request $50 deposit per person. Which is fair, but a hassle when you need to...
Read moreVery clean and basic. The receptionist (Lydia) is a wonderful spirit and made guests feel at home.
Pros: Pristinely clean, great location, great air conditioning.
Cons: -The owners stormed in the room at 12:30 am with a flashlight speaking loudly and waking everyone up, and talking to me disrespectfully and scolding me over something trivial about their roles. Unacceptable unprofessional behaviour -There is a very small uncomfortable common room, almost impossible to stay and socialise at this hostel. It's just to sleep -The showers are insanely small
Edit: as a neutral person would see from their tone in replying to this review, they took simple criticism in a condescending and scolding manner instead of de-escalation and taking it constructively.. very unprofessional hospitality management and their response proves my point.
P.s. no, that's not true, you entered speaking loudly and all room guests talked about this strange thing next morning laughing. And also no, i explained that the cover was placed under the duvet, and i apologised for that and was going to do it myself but Yee wouldn't let me, and now you act like you did me a favour?? I honestly feel bad now for letting her "help", and should've said no knowing that you are going to try and humiliate your guests publicly. Distasteful and disgraceful. Management is unfit for hospitality. I reviewed you with full honesty about the positives and negatives because I treat everyone with honour, not with vindictively WITH THE PEOPLE WHO YOU WANT TO COME AND SPEND MONEY AT...
Read moreabsolutely lovely staff!! i'm enjoying my stay a lot, but there's some things to be noted that could be a dealbreaker for some: the shared (men's) showers are very narrow and the ceiling is a bit moldy. there's hardly any space to stand when swinging the glass door, and the shower head is right above my head, but it works (for me - though i could imagine people of larger sizes could have problems). from what i've seen, there's no gender-neutral shower, but since there's an extra women's shower, maybe that one could be redeclared as unisex? also, the kitchen is quite tiny, but so far, it has worked fine for me. in addition to the one in the fridge, there's more fridges in the hallway. the hostel's reception is located in the pub (the vic, entrance in the building's corner facing the victoria market); the hostel itself has a separate entrance around the corner, which can only be entered with the keycard (also, no visitors allowed). all in all, i think the...
