What a strange place is Falls Creek. After 36 years of skiing all over the world, this was my first time courtesy of the Epic pass. Definitely the snobbiest of the Victorian "Resorts". It has obviously been developed to be self serving for the elite who are members of the private lodges there. Unless you are prepared to pay for a formal sit down meal at a restaurant in the village, the lack of public areas is shocking. Well we did find the official designated "public area" (and signed as such) - a couple of dirty couches in a corner outside the toilets. Every door we opened we were confronted with a “Please Wait to be Seated” sign. Found Hoots was OK if you’re happy to have a pizza and watch the beginners come down Wombats Ramble. The skiing was pretty good once you get up the top, and Cloud 9 is a decent place to have lunch or a snack (only $19 for a bowl of sweet potato chips) but no Picnics allowed (also signed in multiple languages on every pole). Thanks for dropping the entry fee by $20 before the end of August due to the absence of operating lifts, but we already got the message, and as outsiders do not feel welcome here and not likely to return 🎿 Check out Hotham instead, we found it to be much friendlier and convenient with welcoming cafes and bars close together in the Village. And you can get the village lift there right back to...
Read moreYou website is not very intuitive, I had to get the chains separately from my gear because I wanted to collect from two different places. I booked private ski lessons for the kids, but it’s not clear that the private lessons can be for kids too on the website. We weren’t sure as well whether the parents need ski passes if we are only taking the kids to lessons. The ordering system is not intuitive: I booked group lessons first then booked ski lift passes and it added the $5 card twice and I didn’t realize. Also the need for permit to get into the ski resort is not very clear, I only realised that when I stumble across another website about falls creek =_=
I tried to call to ask questions about the above and there is this one day (wednesday) where I called about 20-30 times and no one answered. No one responded to my emails either and by the time I got through the next day, the preferred lesson time I wanted was fully booked.
However once I DID managed to get through, the customer service was extremely helpful (although ski school didn’t know anything abt ski lifts rules for parents taking kids up for lessons) and got most my issues sorted.
The ski instructors are also amazing for the kids and they were skiing in no time. So it’s a bit of a hit and miss in all honesty, but it’s mostly good...
Read moreWe went skiing here at the end of July this year. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed considering the very high price. There was a day of heavy rain, and for half the day they only kept a small slope open with just one ski lift operating. We asked if it was possible to get a refund or a voucher for another day, but it was completely denied. We also found the chairlifts really outdated and slow; they definitely need to be improved or at least made rainproof… for $220 you can not provide such outdated chairlifts! The slopes were poorly maintained and skiing was unpleasant due to numerous small bumps, holes, and snow piles. Additionally, the slopes were poorly marked, making it easy to get lost in low visibility. Lastly, the city slopes were ruined by the constant passage of snowmobiles! Even the restaurants on the slopes, managed by completely unmotivated staff, left us disappointed. If you don’t have a phone with internet connection, you can’t view the menu or place an order, and often the Wi-Fi...
