Modern, clean and comfortable motel room on a cabin holiday park
S41°52.550' E148°18.392' Our goal was to do the Wineglass Bay and Hazard Beach circuit in Freycinet NP and therefore first went looking for Coles Bay accommodation. Two reason we decided on Bicheno: Coles Bay is much more expensive and did not offer the accommodation we wanted. Bicheno is only 37 minutes by car, offers better and cheaper accommodation and the penguin tour at night. You do have to drive back to Coles Bay after sunset and avoid encountering an abundance of wildlife on the road.
Bicheno by the Bay offers 20 separate self-contained cabins, which have been found to be old by reviewers. In addition, reviewers complained about the dated motel rooms without air conditioning and one old motel room next to the reception. From 2016, the reviewers noted the motel rooms are comfortable and clean. We noticed that the four “By the Lake Motel Units (sleep 2)” were recently build and well maintained. A coin operated laundry and dryer and a microwave is available in a separate building. Many reviewers disliked the unfriendly attitude of staff members at Bicheno by the Bay. We noticed confusion during check-in and checkout over breakfast and had to check our booking confirmation to resolve the confusion. The cabins at East Coast Holiday Park and the motel rooms at Wintersun Gardens Motel are less expensive and good options to consider.
In February of 2020, we slept in motel unit 4 on this cabin holiday park. The room has a private and communal deck outside and bedroom with double queen bed and bathroom with walk-in rain shower inside. The room has a television, DVD-player, air conditioning, fridge and everything to prepare continental breakfast. The bed slept comfortable and the shower was great. The room has a snack menu of Pringles and noodles. Continental breakfast was complimentary (thank you) with apples, yoghurt, jam, cereal and bread. We enjoyed having breakfast on our private deck in the morning sun.

Read moreI was very disappointed to find out (after we arrived) that there is in fact no free wifi despite the fact it was advertised at the time of my booking that there IS free wifi. Had I known that there was not going to be free wifi, I would have booked elsewhere at a place that does offer free wifi, so I therefore consider the advertising as false and misleading. When my husband went to ask reception why we couldn't connect to the free wifi via the instructions in our bungalow, reception acknowledged that the wifi isn't good and that it's best to be close to the reception in order to use it....which defeats the whole purpose of having free wifi which you would assume could be accessed from your actual room/bungalow. As the reception was located about 50 meters from our bungalow, we were not at all able to use the advertised free wifi over our entire trip which certainly ruined part of our experience (especially for our daughter). The bungalow was pretty clean appart from a pair of old socks we found under the lounge. I was also disappointed the fact that when I tried to phone the reception later that same day that we left after our stay (as I wanted discuss the free wifi situation), I left a detailed message on the answering machine requesting a call back to discuss, but going on two days later, I still have not had a call back from them! Considering what I paid (they are quite pricey) and the fact that I did not get use of something that was advertised as them having, and that they haven't even had the decency to contact me back to discuss this (despite me leaving a message requesting this), I really am not at...
Read moreHelp I can’t pick a bed!! My parents booked a family apartment I guess and I’m an only child and the room I have to sleep In has 3 beds!!! And I can’t decide which bed to sleep in and they’re all bloody single beds and being a teenager my feet are just barely on a single bed, there are a few things about the room I’d like to note however, There was a mat next to the stove/oven that when I moved it there was a circular mark on the ground ( possibly caused by someone dropping a hot pan and melting a part of the flooring also the walls inbetween rooms are quite thin as I could hear my mum snoring I’d also like to point out that the cupboard in the living area would only close properly if closed extremely lightly, I also do not like the fact the wardrobes do not have doors, the toilet paper holder had no way to stop the toilet paper from rolling off however it did make for convenient roll swaps. In the room I’m staying in there’s chips in the paint and In the living area one of the paintings was slightly agar. This review was extremely nit picky overall pretty good...
