I absolutely loved it. I have never learned so much about beer. All I was trying to do was soak in as much information as possible. I consider myself fairly intermediate when it comes to beer knowledge ( I home brew, visited many breweries, been to many tastings etc) but even I leaned a bunch. But okay... Look. It's not exactly everyone's cup of tea. Basically you get an iPad and point it at pretty much any object (which most of the time has no indication that it should be pointed at) a video or more usually some audio with pictures then automatically begins. Thats pretty much it. It's not a whole lot of interaction and basically a crazy amount of audio with pictures. So some people Wizz through it and easily miss many objects and takes them like 40 min. I pointed at every single object and listened to every possible audio recording. One section gave you the chance to learn about the difference between every single type of beer there is and I listened to each of those twice. Another was just a large globe and you could point at pretty much every continent and get like 20 different videos for each there. So all in all for me it took me 5 hours which was like... Insane. At the end of the day it sort of becomes, point at something , find a place to sit, Listen for 2 minutes, get up, point, sit, listen, up, sit, listen .. I think you get the point. So if you're really ready for basically the most informative audio lecture on beer you've ever been to. Go for it. Obviously I'm sure you could do less and still learn a bunch. I also did the beer tasting which is basically DIY. You pick 3 beers you want to have of what's available and you drink them one at a time. The selection of those beer though I must say was fairly nice and goes through all the different ranges of what beer can be. I highly recommend adding on the beer tasting. But overall I loved it and had a good time. I was the only one who did it in my friend group and really couldn't shut up for the rest of the trip telling them all these cool facts I learned about beer. Practically became an inside joke haha. Well this reviews getting long but long story short. You should go. Can't...
Read moreIt was a very varied so-so experience. I think the experience can be very different for different people so do not simply form your decision on the rating number.
Sadly the building is very unsuited for disabled and elderly people. (And also anyone with a general dislike towards stairs.) While this might just not be possible to change due to building constraints, I found it especially aggrevating that they rudely shoo'd away my dad from their only proper seats because they had reserved them for some tourist group that came way later. My dad with his bad back had to sit on a stool.
The tour itself was okay. They tried to make it interactive which is nice but it also felt a bit forced. I liked the quizzes. The brewing game was kinda unnessecary because it only had one actual gameplay element. A lot of the information was a bit basic so I do not recommend the museum for anyone already knowledgable about beer brewing although there are some nice tidbits about specific brews. The room with the beer bottles mounted to the wall was especially interesting to me.
The translation quality for my native language was quite poor for a professional setting. There were untranslated parts and weirdly translated parts in the tour and on the menu. It seems to me that the translation process was okay but not super throughough.
Except for the aformentioned seating experience the bar was quite nice. You can get 3 15cl tap beers for 6€ if you book that with your tour or 4 beers for 10€ if you just go to the bar or did not book the beers with your tour. You have a very good choice between 16 different taps beers. It's a really fair price and absolutely recommended. I'd recommend to go if you want to actually try out different kinds of beers but not only for the tour and definitely not if you only have limited mobility in any...
Read moreHaving paid for our tickets a few days before, we arrived at 4pm to be told that we hadn’t booked and my name was not on the computer system anywhere at all so we left. My partner emailed the manager/co-owner Lars Pillen, who told us that we had actually booked for the following day at 4pm. I found the booking email in junk mail. This was our genuine mistake, everyone is human and plus we actually turned up with full intention to attend the museum using money we had paid The 4pm slot was not full as the receptionist said we could book if we wanted, but I of course wasn’t going to pay again! Had she conducted a system name search, we could have used our original payment, instead we missed out on the museum and then having kindly asked for our money back, we have been subjected to the most awful, rude and patronising messages from manager/co-owner Lars Pillen, such as “we are done here” “this is my final email” “this is the final answer” “we’ve reached the end here” honestly this is some of the worst customer service we have ever received, it’s shocking and very sad that someone feels this is the correct way to treat other human beings! If there’s a genuine mistake on the buyers part, intent to attend the museum and a staff member is at fault for not checking a name across a computer system, a refund should be given without hesitation, not just from a customer service stand point, but from a moral position as we have lost €38 and didn’t get to see the museum!!! Lars finally offered us credit for another time, but why would we take that, we won’t be returning to the museum after...
