I stayed at the Bristol Castelmar Hotel for 4 nights during a conference that was held at the same location.
Upon entering the hotel you are greeted with a large loby, with some interesting decoration and your typical cocktail bar. Checking in to the hotel was done with ease, no complaints there.
Opening up my hotel room door, I found a large "apartment" like room (because that's what it really was; an "apartment" hotel). A reasonably large living room, with a sofa, a table and some chairs. To one side of the living room was the bathroom, probably the worst part of the room. The bathroom was tight, and while not dirty, never seem to be very hygenic. Thankfully, clean towels were provided daily. The bedroom itself was also large and offered complete cable service. While the bed was nothing special, it was sufficiently comfortable for a good nigth's sleep. The major fault of the room was the lack of drapes to stop neighbors from above to sneek a peak into the living room.
The morning breakfast was complete and offered a vast selection of breads, fruits and juices. Hot foods weren't vast but those that were offered were well prepared.
In terms of location, it isn't far from the local market (10-15min by foot) or the large shopping...
Read moreOn March 6-10 I hade the opportunity to stay at the Castelmar in Florianópolis,BR.||I must admit I had read some of the reviews about this property prior to my trip. My hotel arraignments are usually made by the group that has invited me to give a lecture, so at times I will ask to have the hotel changed in light of the reviews posted. This was not possible due to the fact the event that I was invited to was to held in the hotel. When I talk in a seminar and the subject is "Service" I tell my audiences that ||" It's not what the guests think about when the enter it's" what they believe about you when they leave' So it was when I visited the Castelmar Hotel.||The elevator that I read was to slow was actually as quick as any I have ridden in. The fact that there was only one may have been the problem. The entire staff from the GM to housekeeping was exemplary. My room was spacious and clean. The views may leave a little to be desired, but it was not the reason I was there. ||It is my opinion that the staff is committed to raising this hotel to a higher level.||The next time I am in Florianopolis this hotel will be on my list...

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Dump bedrooms, missing shower gel, missing bedding, we were given a room with no view and facing other buildings, no privacy and security as we couldn't leave our windows open in a dumb and smelly room. Had problems paying as their card machines didn't seem to work with our card, even though we only used that card for our entire holidays. When we mentioned that the problem was at their terminal we were given a very cheeky smile insinuating we didn't want to pay, after many wasted hours and arguments we tried to pay in the small shop they have there, there was no problem. Not an apology, not a I'm sorry, she ( ROSE ) didn't even look me in the eye to give...
