I would like to start with a positive note: I really appreciated the fact that there is a coffee machine for everyone to use.
I am sad to say that this hostel has made my memory of Sofia a lesser one and this is not because of the city itself or because of Bulgarians but because of the following:
Worn out, dirty and unorganized is how I would call this hostel.
Every piece of furniture is worn out and covered in a layer of sticky dust.
They forgot to remove the painters tape around the window and door-frames from years(?) ago.
Every time you walk out of your room a smell of dirty toilettes and old cigarettes slaps you in the face.
One of the private rooms we stayed in has a badly broken bed frame and its door has no key.
The towels and sheets look like they have been used to clean the floor.
There are pots with dead plants and cigarette buds on the balcony and in the private room.
The nice colorful photo(s) of the common space we saw on Airbnb was in fact a dark hole where the ‘staff’ is watching tv on very loud volume all day long..
The water rarely becomes hot enough to take a comfortable shower. You need to actually hold the shower head because they cannot be attached properly on the wall.
As if all of the above is not enough of a pain, the Dutch ‘manager’ —who is constantly watching movies on a very loud volume in the common space— is extremely rude and only talks to you when he wants money from you. Every time I happened to walk by him he was loudly cursing around and accusing me of not paying for last night (while if he had checked in the computer he could see that I did)..
This hostel seems to be run by a group of unorganized teenagers, trying to make you feel as uncomfortable as possible, constantly loudly speaking about drugs or about other guests when they are not around.
It was such a relief when we were able to move to Hostel Mostel after a few nights, the contrast was striking.
I really hope the owner (who ever you are) will soon realize that this hostel is in very bad hands and will hire competent people in order to turn the hostel into the great place it...

The manager Kevin steals everyone's food, cigarettes, and drinks all day every day! Hes so dirty and always broke so he actually relys on poncing and stealing every day to survive. Hes also drunk or high most of the time. Both the manager and the hostel are an absolute joke! They put someone in my brothers bed whilst we were out, then when we returned instead of rectifying their mistake and moving the guy to another bed, they moved about 5 other people to different rooms, only for them to all have to move back to their correct rooms the next day.
The manager stated on a couple of occasions that he doesn't change the bedding if whoever used it doesn't look nasty! I witnessed him just making the used beds instead of changing the bedding on a number of occasions. He also stated that he slept with a 14 year old girl, which we all found extremely disturbing.
I watched so many people complaining every day, and they were either laughed at by drugged up drunken staff or patronized and made to feel like they were wrong for complaining. I cant even explain how bad this place is and how unprofessional the staff are. They are literally 'out of their nuts' from drink and drugs from morning til night. Everythings dirty, broken, dangerous, or missing, and if you want a hot drink or to use the toilet you better have your own kettle and toilet roll!
Here's a list of some of the problems with this hostel which was more like a Bulgarian homeless persons refuge.
Cockroaches Unchanged bedding Dirty and run down No working lockers No toilet roll No towels No cutlery No kettle No bed lights No cleaning of rooms Spiders, cobwebs, and dirt everywhere Only 1 tiny toilet on each floor Disgusting toilets Only 1 tiny shower on each floor Homeless Bulgarians stay here
IF IT WERE FREE I WOULD NEVER...
Read moreHow does this place have 4 stars on average? I wish I could give it 0 stars. Echoing some other reviewers THIS IS THE WORST HOSTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. I know hostels. I’ve visited over 20 countries this year and stayed in many hostels. It’s not luxury. It’s basic. But this place I literally started to call prison when I would go back there in the evening. Before I even got there they sent a very unprofessional email with no heading and 3 words: “Hi,arrive time ?”. The dude at reception was not nice. You have to pay in cash and not card which is terrible. Every other hostel I’ve been to I can pay with card. There’s 1 shop nearby and otherwise a 20 minute walk to the city center. I had a single-bed room on the 2nd floor. There were two windows. They could not be shut and the street below was noisy. Only 1 window had curtains! The stool in the room broke as soon as I sat on it. There were pieces of glass-like plastic underneath the bed that I stepped on. The bathrooms were atrocious. The shower on my floor (2nd floor) looked like a literal horror movie shower. A prison shower would for sure be better. The door to it was literally broken in. The floor of it was chipped off. I went to the 1st floor to check out that shower. It looked better. When I tried to use it I simply turned the handle and it immediately broke off. I did not shower for 3 days because of this place. I did not sleep well. My health suffered. It’s evident that Bulgaria is still a poor and underdeveloped country if any health inspector has not gone to this so-called hostel and shut it down. Park Hostel Sofia needs to be shut down. DO NOT BOOK...
