I want to preface this by saying that everyone was very nice. The welcome fruit platter, the nightly desserts with the turndown service, the complimentary breakfasts, and the cocktails were all very good and lovely. The location is also very convenient. However, there were a lot of issues.
All the plants and flowers are pretty but there's so many that it attracts a lot of bugs. I got bit during sleep even though I sprayed all the bed linens.
The back lid of the toilet comes off when you flush because the cover is just a wooden slat that doesn't fit securely.
All the dispensers (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel) are too small and you have to pump 10x each just to get a small amount.
The body lotion smells bad and is too watery.
The bed lamp and hair dryer both kept breaking. The blow dryer will work again after you wait several minutes (who has time for that?!) and the bed lamp just turns off and on whenever it wants.
The bed is too small and mattress was uncomfortably hard.
The masseuse accidentally pinched a nerve during the aromatherapy massage and I'm still experiencing pain 3 days later. It made it incredibly difficult to function and I had to cut my all my excursions short because of it.
When they tried to make it up, I initially said ok but then I told the person who approached me in the lobby at night (I think she was a senior masseuse) that I changed my mind since I don't want to risk making it worse. She said that she understood but they still went ahead with it during my facial and scrub.
I told the new masseuse that I was in a hurry to checkout so to keep the facial and scrub to 45mins each instead of an hour. She agreed but it turns out that she didn't understand English and was just nodding along.
Later, once I realized that we were over time, I tried to explain it to her again. She went and got a MALE translator when I was in a FREAKING TOWEL.
I ordered an espresso martini and the bartender repeated it back to me but then somehow forgot and brought me a taramind martini instead.
During my dinner, I ordered an appetizer, main course, and drink. I finished my food and my drink still wasn't ready. They said that the bar was busy. It would have been nice if they had told me while I was still eating and not wait until I asked.
For a SLH and Hilton property, I was honestly...
Read moreAfter trawling booking sites for a hotel in Siem Reap during peak season, and finding that I would have to pay around $160 for a decent room for my family, I decided to look up guesthouses.||I chose Angkor Sweet Home because of its reviews and the $10/night price and free airport pick up. Sounded too good to be true. We had our fingers crossed...||We were picked up at the airport by a young man and his tuk tuk, it was late at night and I was hoping the accommodation would be clean and safe and we weren't disappointed. The tuk tuk driver asked us if we needed a driver to take us around (all tuk tuk drivers ask this) but we had booked a tour already. ||Essentially, the family that owns the guesthouse rent out rooms and they also run the laundry at the front of their home ($1/kg). The family were quiet, but very kind. They allowed us to leave our bags at there on our last day while we explored the temples as our flight home was late at night. We were also asked if we wanted to shower because our flight, even though we already checked out.||We booked a family room, but when we got there it wasn't available so they gave us two rooms for the same price as the family room. We didn't mind this. More space for the kids! ||The rooms had private bathrooms, overhead fan and bar fridge. The small bottles of water are free while the larger bottle was 50cents, soft drinks were also 50cents and a bottle of Angkor beer was $1. Just put them in the fridge and enjoy an ice cold drink after a day visiting the temples! I was surprised at the reasonable price for the drinks, much cheaper than the convenience store. ||Rooms were made up everyday, fresh towels and toiletries were replenished. They even provided toothbrushes, comb and a pack of facial tissues. ||Bike rental was available for a couple of dollars. Each night we walked to the night markets, it was just a short walk along the river. Finding the place wasn't hard either, just ask for 26 street.||We really felt welcome and at home. I didn't expect so much for just $10 a night (don't know how they do it) and this is the best value for money place to stay in Siem Reap. ||Just be aware that shoes should be left at the front door (as with many other Asian countries) as it is their home. ||Highly recommended and would stay...
Read moreI am struggling where to begin! From the second I entered this hotel I was in heaven. Get out your camera because it is a photo shoot just walking to your room. The lobby, private spaces, pool, and restaurant (that is separated from the lobby by a fantastic water lilly pond) are very well maintained and perfectly lit to make your photos spectacular. The room was big and comfortable and nicely done. Each night for turn down, Lotus flowers were placed on my bed and in my room everywhere. In addition, fresh chocolate chip cookies and a different story or fable to read. There are no TVs in the room, which is pleasant. If you feel you need TV, there is one that will accommodate your desires. A refrigerator with freezer, coffee, sodas, beer and water all supplied. I had a margarita every night at happy hour (no sugar) made by Thanin and Sokum. Many thanks to keeping this California girl satisfied. Every time I came and went from the hotel I was greeted by the warmest, most friendly staff. (Lum-kim, and Sinan) Always remembered me and made me feel like I was part of the family. I don’t typically like to stay in the same place twice, but I have to admit that I will come back to Siem Reap and stay here again. If you get to breakfast before 9 AM, the pink and white lilies are open in the pond with fountains and cascading vines. You will be greeted by the greatest wait staff ready to cater to your needs. You get warm milk with your coffee and a nice assortment of breakfast choices. I only had one treatment here (It was wonderful) because I was so busy doing all things Siem Reap. I only stayed four nights and wish I had stayed at least six. The shopping is so good here and the hotel is walking distance to pub street and many choices of Bars, cafés and clothing shops with fantastic finds. I found more here than Thailand. Pretty much everyone accepts dollars and you will have no trouble as an american using cash or credit. An ATM, French, café, and fresh smoothies across the street. My review is getting too long, but I could go on and on… If you are not satisfied with this hotel, you probably aren’t satisfied ever!!! AKUN Angkor Village for making this, the most memorable part of my southeast Asia...
