While planning my trip to Cambodia, a friend had suggested Maisan 557 to us, and her exact words were 'if you are looking for a place to stay in Siem Reap, please dont look elsewhere '. Well, she was right ! Me & my husband stayed at Maisan for 2 nights in Feb'15, and we absolutely loved our stay there. We stayed at the Loft villa (not sure if thats the name, the one where you need to climb a staircase to reach), and the way the room was decorated was lovely- It was simple, very clean and looked very stylish and posh with the decoration! The staircase is quite difficult to climb if you have elderly people in the group, thus would suggest going for the other rooms downstairs, but if you are young/fit/enthusiastic its a lovely room and quite secluded too. The owner of the place Jeff is a great guy and he gives a personalized touch to the service you get there. And more than anything else, the feeling of getting a personalized service made our stay all the more special. .He is very helpful- would help you plan your trips, would give you his opinion on what is worth doing & whats not (& trust me, speaking from personal experience, he knows what he is suggesting ), and he would put in every bit of effort to make you feel at home. Given his depth of knowledge on travel in general & ofcourse about Cambodia, he would even suggest you on the rest of your trip if you ask him to. The balcony where breakfast is served is beautiful and we spent hours just sitting there. The breakfast spread is nice, however my only suggestion would be add some meat based options to it (sausages, bacon strips, etc). On the day of the temple visit when we had to leave very early, he even packed breakfast and handed it over to the tuktuk driver (without us even asking him to do so !).The place has a beautiful garden with lots of places to sit and relax, and even has a small swimming pool. Moreover, its very close to the pub street and thus very convenient to go/come back from the pub street any time you want. Overall, this is a bed& breakfast that I would highly recommend...
Read moreRoom:|Our stay in the hotel was very comfortable. The room was spacious, offering enough space to accommodate an additional bed for a child. The bed itself was large, ensuring a good night's sleep. The presence of two air conditioning units kept the room pleasantly cool. The bathroom was equally spacious, providing ample room to move around. One of the highlights was the private pool, which was quite large and a perfect way to cool down after exploring the temples. The hotel also provided filtered drinking water at the breakfast area, allowing us to refill our water bottles conveniently. Overall, the room felt homely and welcoming.||Breakfast:|The breakfast menu was simple but satisfying. While it wasn't an extensive spread, the quality of the food was good, making for a pleasant start to the day. They even provided breakfast in a take-away box when we had to leave early for our flight. ||Hospitality:|The hospitality at the hotel was exceptional. A special mention goes to Kimyon and team, who was remarkably quick in attending to all our requests. The taxi and tuk-tuk drivers arranged by the hotel were also commendable; they were not only good in English but also provided excellent service. Security was available during night hours, offering an added sense of safety and assisting guests in crossing the road.||Location:|The hotel's location was very convenient. It was just a 5-minute walk to Pub Street and the market area, where there were plenty of restaurants and shops. For immediate needs, there was a mini-mart just opposite the road. Additionally, several street food vendors, restaurants, and shops were in close proximity, making it easy to find something to eat or shop at any time.||Areas for improvement:|There were a few areas for improvement. The room and facilities appeared somewhat dated and could benefit from some refurbishment. The towels provided could have been newer. The water pressure in the bathroom could have been better. Additionally, while the breakfast was good, a more varied spread would have enhanced the...
Read moreEDIT: The owner came to talk and clarify the situation during my stay. They said that Agoda (which I booked through) and Google is not listing the correct accommodation rating or list of amenities and they have no control over that. They said that they have listed themselves as a 3-star accommodation on Booking.com. I have recommended that they contact both Google and Agoda to fix the listing to avoid such cases moving forward so it's now up to them to attempt. Overall, it's a nice and clean accommodation with polite staff and owner in a very good location. However, as a frequent traveler, I personally still have some quips about certain amenities not being provided. I think 3-star should make available in the room: a kettle, a hair dryer, toothbrushes, and a proper blanket instead of a cover sheet.
ORIGINAL: Low rating because of several inaccurate ratings and amenities listings. (1) this quality is not a 4 star hotel, this is at best a 3 star B&B. (2) for this price in Cambodia, it doesn't even provide toothbrush and toothpaste, because even some 1 star hostels provide that. (3) listed "parking" as part of amenities but only has public streetside parking available, which is really subject to first-come-first-serve with the rest of the public, the B&B does not own this "parking". (4) not even a kettle available even though "coffee maker available in all rooms" is listed. (5) no blankets, only cover sheet provided which is strange by all accounts, so coupled with lack of some typical amenities aforementioned, they seem to be skimping. I don’t mind some of the little things being not available, but I would like listings to be accurate so I can plan accordingly. This has been the first night only, and I may edit/add more after check out if anything...
