We went to Underground Tap House yesterday before the battle of alberta game and we had made a reservation for 2 people. When we got there, we waited several minutes before we were noticed by a waitress who was taking payment from a table nearby. She said “I’ll be right with you” and then she was not right with us and we waited several more minutes before a waiter came to greet us. No problem—I understand it can be crazy busy. We’re led to our table and look around, expecting a bustling restaurant, but most of the seats throughout the restaurant are empty. No problem—perhaps you’re understaffed tonight (although that’s weird since I assume you’re expecting business before the hockey game). Our waiter promptly brought us a menu to share and helped us pick a couple beers to start with, which were both great choices. Drinks came relatively quickly and tasted awesome. We ordered 3 appetizers to share: brussel sprouts, gnocchi, and steak skillet. It took about 20-25 minutes for the food to come out, which isn’t awful, and we had the time to order and receive another round of beers. The food came out and the flavours in each dish were actually quite good, but everything was cold. Like, even the skillet that the steak came on was cold to the touch. This obviously made the gnocchi an unpleasant texture, and the brussels with cold cheese sauce was less than delicious. We were prepared to tell the waiter our issues when he came back to check on us, except that he never did check. He walked back and forth past us and bussed empty tables and never did a table touch with us. As a server myself, this is quite strange as it’s expected that when the food comes out, you check with the guests to make sure everything is to their liking, so that there’s time to rectify any issues if necessary. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to wait for the dishes to be remade as it was already 7:40 and the game starts at 8. We kept eating the cold food so that we wouldn’t be drinking on an empty stomach, only to find a long dark hair in our steak. This obviously completely put us off and we had to go out of our way to get our waiter’s attention. He did immediately remove the dish from the table and off the bill but he was so in and out that we didn’t even have a chance to tell him the rest of the food was also unpleasant. Overall, the beers were great, the potential was there, but the execution was severely underwhelming. Perhaps some new training needs to be done to ensure this doesn’t happen to others in the future. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment as...

🤳First impression was it was kind of empty but the vibe was like a pub. We were seated by a woman who was dressed in what looks like pijamas... It was also a bit warm, with heat from the ceiling vent pouring down. 👉Our male server at first seemed pleasant but I quickly realized that he was very impatient and short with our group. Initially only four of us were at the table waiting for the other two but he only gave us three menus, one per couple. That was strange I had to wait to look at the menu. And the menu itself was very limited. 🍺When taking our drink order, I selected a 16 oz beer, but then I inquired about ordering a flight of beer and the server told me it was a better deal and cheaper to get the 16oz. Strange because I wanted to order a flight and the beer, seemed like the server was trying to talk me out of it. He wasn't really helpful with the beer selection either. 🌮 Ordered tuna tacos as a starter, other party members ordered the focaccia. The tacos were delicious but the focaccia was a rip-off. 9.00 for 6 pieces of bread. We ordered a second order of focaccia because it was so small. That's $18 for bread. 🍲 My husband ordered the ribs and he asked the server what sides were included and the server didn't know. He fumbled and just said assorted vegetables... For my main I ordered the duck breast. It was mediocre, served on a messy plate with overcooked green beans and carrots. It was $30 dollars, and my server gave me a butter knife to cut it with... 🍮 The server asked if anyone wanted desert, I said a dessert menu would be great to look at. As I was visiting with my other party members the server dropped the menu off and I didn't realize. Then he came back to ask if I was ready to order and I said I hadn't looked at the menu and he was very short with me and said I dropped it off 5 minutes ago... I ordered the creme brulee. Nothing wrong with it. 💁🏻♀️Overall for a restaurant that boasts about having awesome beer selection I would expect the servers to be helpful with that selection. Also the appetizer menu can be a lot more suited and paired with the beer. I would not recommend this establishment for a dinner party. The dinner menu is overpriced and underwhelming, lacking service and even proper utensils. You would get better value for your food and service dining...
Read moreAfter searching for a restaurant while visiting Edmonton, we chose to go to Underground for an early dinner. Upon arrival we were seated and given water. Eventually we were greeted by a waitress who said “I will be right with you” Ten minutes or more passed before she returned asking about our drink orders. We had not been given anything other than beer menus until we asked after any other available drinks.
The drinks were very expensive!
Once we ordered the drinks we had also decided on two appetizers to start. Simple nachos and the Brussels sprouts. We requested that the guacamole be prepared without cilantro and were assured they make it fresh for each order. We also ordered extra salsa. When the nachos arrived we all looked at each other in disbelief. We basically were staring at a bag of nacho chips with less than an ounce of cheese maybe a quarter of a tomatoe and possibly one green onion on top! We had to ask for the extra salsa to be brought to the table. When our drinks arrived we were not given straws with them. Had to ask. One person in our party didn’t care for her drink so it was passed to another in our party and she ordered a different drink. It arrived again without a straw! It had whipped cream on top! No straw?? Ridiculous!
Our waitress never returned to ask how the meal was until we were almost finished. NOTE: we were starving so we had to eat, however, we made sure to express our unsatisfactory nachos to our waitress.
We had actually planned to have our meal there as well, but after the experience with the nachos decided to pass.
She apologized and went to talk to kitchen staff. When she returned she told us the cook admitted that he did t know how to make nachos and she offered us her employee discount of 40% off the Nachos because we had eaten the chips.
Needless to say there was no tip offered and after the bill was cleared we were finishing our drinks. The waitress came and removed plates and cups as well as a half consumed $17 drink!! We will never return to Underground Tap and Grill due to poor service and unsatisfactory overpriced food. Our bill was almost $100 for this...
