Checked into this place a few weeks ago- we got in late around 6pm. To mention I used to work in hotels- and specifically wanted to go here based on reviews and photos online. However upon checking in realized this room was cleaned very poorly- and after noticing more the overall hotel wasn’t really clean in the morning light. The staff was accommodating when I raised concerns with the cleanliness of our room- and after an hour they switched our room to another. The second room wasn’t as bad but I would never stay here again. My house is cleaner than this place and lately with this economy you have to give people a reason to leave all the comforts of their home. The photos I’ve included: The snacks in the tray are firstly weighted nothing is included in your room besides free water and espresso pods. You will have to pay 38$ a day to valet park your car otherwise it’s 28$ every 12 hours with zero hotel parking. Insane truthfully. Back to the photos: the food tray was dirty and dusty. Which made me feel gross immediately because you think to yourself “ everyone has touched this.” The corner of the showers: Had clumps of hair in them and the grout was dirty- the silicon also had mold in some places it really was gross I had to lay a towel down in the shower. Even when they switched our room I could see a film on the floors of the shower. The dust: The dust in the rooms was clung to the chandelier tops like they haven’t noticed it in a year. It was so thick it was hairy. And the chandelier was right above our bed… and even when they switched the room it was the same. On top of the headboard of the bed there was also a thick dust. The fingerprints: The windows were covered in hand marks… doesn't anybody notice this? It’s really gross you just think about how everyone stays there and does… well … anyways. The hotel has such potential to be gorgeous but the cleanliness is bad. Also in the lobby the lights above the front desk are all glass that look like old whisky bottles- they are covered in dust. The more you look you can’t unsee. The cups in our room were dirty. I honestly bought food every night and cups at a convenience store because I did not trust almost anything there. Needless to say- happy our two days were finished and we will never go back here again. You’d think with how air bnbs have taken over they would be working hard to get their rooms clean and amenities high. The positives: The view is nice and it’s located around literally everything. You can walk to pretty much all things you’d like to do. Everything is close. The staff were nice. And the decor is also beautiful. But would never stay here again.

I reaaaally loved my stay here!! I spent 11 nights so you can bet I got the chance to test out all the amenities, the restaurant (Chop), the bar, and the surrounding shops & nightlife. First off, this is bar none, the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed. The beds are made so tight you’d stay put if someone flipped the building upside down (OMG the bed is like a ☁️,🤤), the Nespresso pods (yes, my room had a Nespresso machine 🤩) are each in their own little leather cradle, and the GIANT shower was spotless. Speaking of the shower, this is the first place I’ve stayed where they went to such lengths to curate the perfect experience, that they even put the shower controls on the opposite wall, so your hand doesn’t get wet when you turn it on…. I’ve watched enough reno shows to know that means water pipes in both walls, not something you see every day and I loved it. Ok so for the amenities let’s start with the gym. Honestly, I’ve been to worse dedicated recreation facilities…. Again, it was so so clean, smelled great, had a full selection of free weights and machines, and tons of natural light. Next, the restaurant and bar. The food was to die for 😵, you definitely need to get the prime rib, honestly best steak I’ve ever had!! On top of the great food, the bartenders and servers were so friendly and weren’t shy to strike up a conversation, which I really appreciated since I was travelling alone 😊. Location-wise, I don’t think it’s possible to get any more central than this…. In fact, the street attached to the front of the building is the most popular street in Halifax by far (Argyle). So if your touring around, or if you want a pub, restaurant, late night poutine/shwarma/donair, whatever, you could probably keep an eye on the inside of your hotel room from anywhere you’d want to be in the downtown core. (Shout out to James, the concierge for helping me around town). I guess lastly, I’m really impressed by the quality of staff they’ve found. Enthusiastic, helpful, and kind doesn’t even begin to describe it. By two days in, everyone knew me by name, and it felt almost like family when I came and went. To name a few, thanks Mike** at the front door, as well as Eli and Rae at the front desk (forgive me if I’ve spelt your names wrong) for making me feel at home ❤️. **update: extra kudos to Mike because his name is most definitely not Alex like I wrote before🤦🏻

I viewed and prepaid for a stay for December 31st where I shared, I would need a room for 5 people to celebrate New Years where the front desk agent tock my payment and confirmed the room I would be staying in which was an executive suit with a water front view, for 350 a night plus tax 419.00||December 31st, I called and then asked for an early check in. The Sutton Place front desk confirmed I could check in at 10:30-11 am which I said great but unfortunately, I could not make it due to traffic and planning and arrived at the hotel for 12:00.||Once I arrived at the hotel at 12:00 pm it was confirmed the executive suite I prepaid for and the floor and view I had reserved prior was given away, the front desk stated a glitch but I’m lead to believe they gave it away because I was not at the hotel for 10:30 am and presumed I would not arrive at all even though the suit was paid for in advanced.||Shuffling the responsibility of giving away my room on-to the glitch, the front desk agent stated it was not his fault and then put me in a prior grand suit that does not have the space or view I needed, and was not the room I had selected, proceeded to offer me a 50 dollar discount if I stay in grand suit I did not want, and or offer a connecting room at full price for more space which I also did not want.||I stated I would look elsewhere and then precede after a 2 hour wait to organize me to stay in the same type of room as if he went out of his way to fix an error that was not my responsibility, and then proceeded to give him self and the hotel phrase as if nothing happened, I checked into the suit that was not on the floor I wanted and could not see anything I was hoping to.||Once checked into the room the suit had no power then I had to wait another hour while maintenance fixed the power issue, while he was doing that I was waiting for him to finish I called the front desk and ask for the snacks and food to be taken out of the room as I did not need them, after the maintenance person was done I then needed to get food and drinks for the people arriving as I was already running 4 hours late.||Once I received the food and drinks, I then decorated, at this point I did not eat or drink anything as the set back at the hotel put me behind and because did not want to make up for the serious issue I could not eat anything, and did not have enough time to look after myself.||After everything was set up for quests to arrive I then ordered McDonalds and ate in my bedroom while the quests ate the food I purchase for them during the party/ gathering, going down to the front desk to collect my food and then going back to my room on the 9th floor the lineup for the elevator was 50 people long as they also had guests staying over for the hockey game and all the standard rooms were sold out.||Once the night was close to coming to an end at 10:00 pm we then went out to continue out celebrations as we had tickets for a club, were we drank and had a very good time, once we came back the check in area was a circus of drunk people no security staff was seen no front desk staff to make sure people and quests were safe, I tock the elevator up and a fight broke out in the check in area of the hotel where I was hit and then proceeded to go up to my suit to escape the drunk people the hotel allowed to enter the hotel, this was about 2 am.||The next day the front desk asked me how my stay was. I mentioned the check-in issues, the no power in the suit, the fighting in the check-in area, the lack of time it gave me to make sure I had everything I needed, how I did not. The front desk person did not offer any compensation to make up for the serious issues, or ask me if they could make it up to me then proceeded to try to charge me for the mini bar items I had asked for front desk to remove from the suite, I had sent an email to the manager for the hotel the following days but as of Jan 4th I have yet to hear...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Sutton Place Hotel in Halifax during a trade show, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. I can confidently say that this hotel exceeded my expectations in every aspect, and I am more than happy to share my positive review.

First and foremost, the staff at Sutton Place Hotel Halifax were incredibly welcoming and friendly. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction throughout our stay. Their professionalism, attentiveness, and willingness to assist with any requests were truly commendable.

The hotel itself was absolutely stunning. The elegant and contemporary design created a sophisticated ambiance that immediately made us feel at home. The rooms were spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully furnished, providing a luxurious and comfortable environment. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect, from the plush bedding to the modern amenities.

The location of the hotel was perfect for our trade show needs. It was conveniently situated in the heart of Halifax, offering easy access to the exhibition center and other key attractions. The proximity to restaurants, shops, and entertainment options made it incredibly convenient for us to explore the city during our downtime.

The dining options at Sutton Place Hotel were exceptional. We had the pleasure of enjoying delicious meals at their on-site restaurant, which boasted a diverse menu and impeccable service. The culinary team showcased their expertise by delivering flavorful dishes that satisfied our taste buds. The breakfast buffet was particularly impressive, offering a wide array of fresh and delicious options to start our day on a high note.

The hotel amenities were top-notch. The fitness center was well-equipped and maintained, allowing us to stay active and energized throughout our stay. The business center provided us with all the necessary resources to conduct our work efficiently. Additionally, the hotel's high-speed internet ensured a seamless and reliable connection, which was essential for our trade show activities.

Last but not least, I must commend the attention to cleanliness and hygiene. Sutton Place Hotel Halifax maintained strict cleanliness protocols, which gave us peace of mind during our stay. The common areas, rooms, and facilities were spotless, and the hotel staff made sure to adhere to all safety measures to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all guests.

In conclusion, Sutton Place Hotel Halifax truly impressed us with their exceptional service, elegant ambiance, prime location, delectable dining options, excellent amenities, and commitment to cleanliness. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Halifax, whether for business or leisure. My stay was nothing short of fantastic, and I cannot wait to return to this remarkable hotel...

UPDATE: The GM Mark reached out to me to explain that we were mistakenly placed in an accessible room, which was why there were unexpected features in the bathroom. He also offered a complimentary night's stay which was very well appreciated. Happy to see that they really do care about the feedback they receive and are ready and willing to make it up to their guests!

I made this booking for my birthday celebration and included that detail on the booking notes, but we were disappointed to see that it was not acknowledged by the staff. Staff did not even say happy birthday.

Besides that, we were disappointed by some of the details in the base level room. We stayed in the Muir last year, also in a base level room, so we had a comparison based on the fact that they're both rated as 5 star hotels. I will say that the room in the Sutton was extremely clean, and it was very quiet. But there were some things we didn't like about the room:

The floors were strangely not level and we found this a bit disorienting at first. The room curtain is not automated and it's not blackout. While it gave enough privacy at night time, the entire room was lit up with daylight as soon as the sun came up, so we didn't get to sleep in. The bathroom is also not level, but it was designed that way for water to run into the two drains. However, this was a problem in combination with the shower design, which has a shower curtain instead of an enclosure. Even with the curtain drawn over, the water would spill underneath and collect at the drain in front of the bathroom sink. So we didn't enjoy standing in a puddle or on top of a wet towel while we brushed our teeth. Also disappointed to see that there was not a rain shower head option, there was only a very small shower head that was very underwhelming. There was also a hole in our bathroom door that looked like someone had punched it or something. Not a big deal, but not something I'd expect to see in a 5 star hotel. Only one robe was provided, didn't feel like going out of my way to ask for another one.

We were also pretty disappointed at the lack of a pool or spa in the hotel, as we thoroughly enjoyed the one in the Muir last year.

The location was great though, and absolutely within easy walking distance of all of the downtown Halifax staples. We ended up going out for dinner and brunch to the Queen's Marque restaurants which is again part of the Muir.

Overall, where the Sutton is a 5 star hotel, we were chasing the high of the experience of staying at the Muir last year, but the Sutton missed the mark on many points. This opinion is solely based on the fact that they're both 5 star hotels, and it's important to keep in mind that a base level room at the Muir is just over twice as expensive as a base level room...
