A group of 11 of us ate there just over a week ago.
One of my friends ordered a 5 ounce glass of wine and then an 8 ounce glass of wine, and when her bill came, she was charged for two 8 ounce glasses of wine. She pointed this out to our server, who basically told her that she was wrong and charged her for the two 8 ounce glasses anyway.
Another friend ordered her meal with no onions, and it arrived with onions. She could not be bothered to say anything, so she just ate it and obviously did not enjoy it.
Another friend of mine ordered the pork belly tacos. She said that what arrived was basically uncooked fat, so she had two bites and left the rest.
When our second round of drinks came, everybody was having to figure out what belonged to who, because people that ordered a 5 ounce wine were given an 8 ounce wine and vice versa. One of the girls ordered the same type of wine twice but the two glasses tasted different. We still don’t know if we got the actual wine that we ordered. We at least made the amounts correct.
For my food order, I had asked if I could just order two of the sides and was told that I could. I was not informed that the prices would be different than the $4 each listed. I was then charged for a small size of the salad at $9. And I was charged $6 for sweet potato fries when I would think that I would at least pay the $4 charge for it as a side to my salad? I am not sure why the price for those increased to $6? I will say that the fries and salad were tasty for me at least.
When our bills came, mine was incorrect (for the drinks, I did not mention the food prices) as well as my friend to the right of me. We both asked for them to be corrected, which she did. But then they came back incorrect again, with my friend to the right of me basically paying a few extra dollars for my wine. Our server asked us if we wanted the bills redone again, instead of just apologizing and going back to make it correct. At that point we were just annoyed and we felt bad to send her back, so we said not to worry about it and just left it as is.
Then, to top it all off, she announces to our group that any group larger than 10 people automatically has to pay an 18% tip. There is nothing listed on your website about this, and the person that made the reservation was not told about this. So I actually question if this is even true. I don’t understand why somebody can give less than good service, but then also be rewarded with an 18% tip from every person. I can tell you that I certainly would not have given her an 18% tip based on the service that was provided.
Overall, I can say that I will not be going back, as there are many other restaurants around Halifax that provide great service for large groups, and do not insist on a certain percentage of tip for...

While walking around the waterfront today we passed Gahan House. We weren't hungry at the time but just walking by reminded us of all the great lunches, drinks and dinners we've enjoyed there this year. After a few hours of walking the city, and completing some shopping, we swung back around to grab a late lunch.
We still weren't starved so we chose to share a serving of Nachos and a beer sampler. The waitress was friendly and while deliberating between 2 sour cream sides or one sour cream and one salsa she recommended that we get sour cream and their cheese sauce, claiming it was incredible. I think her exact quote was "I would eat it with a spoon". We went the suggested route and weren't disappointed. The nachos came out hot and loaded with plenty of cheese and the usual fixings. The "Full" plate of nachos is enough for 2 if you want room for dessert or don't have a big appetite.
The beer sampler, titled "new kids on the block", had a variety of brews with something for both of us. If you know what you like I'd stick to your favourites but the sampler is a nice way to discover some new tastes.
Always lots of indoor and outdoor seating.
Perfect for 2 on a semi-casual dinner or a large group for drinks or food. I would recommend Gahan House to anyone.
While we didn't have them this time our favourites are:
Fish & Chips: 2 (giant) pieces of perfectly prepared, flavourful haddock over a mountain of fries. Probably the best deal in the city at $15, bring your appetite, neither my girlfriend nor I have been able to finish it. Maple Curry Penne: well prepared, flavourful and large portions. Great for anyone who likes a good curry, not too bold for someone interested in trying something new. Seafood Chowder (side of fries): the Chowder is enough to be a meal on its own but I'm a huge fan of Gahan's fries so I like to downsize to a cup...
Read more04/2022 updated I really love their food as always, but the service was not great sometimes. When we went visit the restaurant, they messed up the number of the flight, so at the end the beer we ordered was not the one we wanted. We didn’t drink the beer (Can be distinguished by color) and just told the server that the beer was not the one we want. At this moment, the server’s expression changed greatly. I don't know the details of their work, but maybe she have to pay for this beer or sth, but it's not our fault. After telling the server to send the wrong beer, she took it back and gave us the beer we had expected, but her service was obviously much colder. Although we gave her more tips at the end, we didn’t have a good experience overall.

09/2021 Updated The servers were way better tonight when I went back. But I still noticed some servers still didn’t wear masks correctly when they talk to the other servers in front of the customers. Other than that everything is great! The food was super tasty.

Never been to the old location in the waterfront, and it was my first time here in this new location. Me and my bf got pan fried haddock and fried chicken burger ( I got their fries instead of the rice). The food was tasty, we both really enjoyed it. The atmosphere and decor are super nice and warm, also love how their patio looks like (it’s closed now in the fall but every time when I passed through in the summer, it always seems so nice)
-1 star for their server, the service went super poorly and slow. The server barely checked our table and everything took forever to arrive. Also I saw one of their servers didn’t wear the mask correctly, when she talked to the other server she took her mask off.
I’ll still go back sometimes, their food...
