Finally got around to booking a room here for 2 nights. Excellent rates if booking direct.||Jeanette is warm, friendly and eager to please. We could have talked for hours about all things Stratford as she was raised here.||||The house was tastefully decorated for the holidays, but not to the extent of nausea. Some very nice Early Canadian pieces mix well with some contemporary items. I appreciated the uncluttered feel and the paint colour palette is pleasing and soothing throughout the house. Arts & Crafts architectural items such as crown molding, cast iron radiator detail, newel post, door frame heads and high ceilings. Lots of big bright windows.||||I stayed in the Magnolia Room, mainly because it is the only room with a bath tub but also has a walk in shower. A fabulous fiberglass clawfoot, and the bubble bath provided makes one's skin soft. Spa like towels and even the bath mat was noteworthy. Very large and bright bathroom with 2 lights on dimmers. ||||The mattress is one of, if not the best I have ever slept on. Soft smooth sheets will make it difficult for you to want to rise out of bed, you will want to languish a while before breakfast. Nice big closet with plenty of hangars and 2 robes. Fresh 2 litre glass bottle of filtered water provided daily. ||||Breakfasts are superb. One day it was eggs in a basket (baked eggs in shredded potato nest) served with 3 pieces of Canadian back bacon. Next day was cream cheese filled French toast with local maple syrup and 3 rashers of side bacon. Starter is either yogurt with fruit & granola or a fresh fruit cup. Orange juice, coffee or tea.||||The buffet in the dining room always has some kind of baked good and there is a Keurig available 24/7 for tea & coffee on a separate sideboard. Upstairs landing fridge has soft drinks, water and also a place to store your leftovers should you have any from the great restaurants.||||I will definitely be back and will try the Morning Rose room (largest suite) this time. It's at the back of the house so less road traffic noise however, I am a very light sleeper but the front room didn't bother me at all, even with a window open a tad. ||||Driveway is on John St. and is more than 2 cars...
Read moreMagnolia House B&B is the place to stop if you are visiting Stratford, which we were in our annual Shakespeare play binge. This town is so charismatic, if a town can be such. The Avon River runs through it, the dragon boats race on the river, the weekly art in the park draws you in, and downtown the shops reach out to you. Next year the new ultra modern Tom Patterson theatre will be open. We saw plays at the Studio and Festival theatres. The Magnolia House is close enough to the center of town that it is a nice morning walk after a scrumptious breakfast, along the river and through the verdant Shakespearean Gardens. There are three bedrooms upstairs; we stay in the Magnolia room of course, with full shower, a bathtub if wanted, a comfortable queen bed. Our room is a corner room at Avon at John Streets. And there are wide porches on the first and second floors, as well as a guest lounge downstairs. Our hostess Jeannette bakes some cookies or sweets and places them in the dining room, where a coffee/tea machine is always ready to go. The breakfast served is always a delicious surprise. Very nice and recommended. Stratford is an experience not...
Read moreWe had a wonderful one-night stay in the Bermuda Room, mid-October, while in Stratford to see three plays. Magnolia House is set in a leafy residential area of lovely historic properties close to downtown and the theatres. We were able to walk to plays, and to restaurants downtown easily. Magnolia House has been beautifully restored, and our room was fresh, bright and roomy. Very comfortable bed and pillows--we had a great sleep. Inspired by owner Jeanette's winters in Bermuda, it had a relaxing beach vibe. Breakfast was large and delicious, Jeanette was charming and extremely helpful from the first booking phone call I made. Easy free parking on site. As with many B & B's, luggage must be carried up a one floor staircase, so travel light. This is a corner property, with some local traffic noise during the daytime, but very peaceful overnight. We would definitely choose to...
