WARNING: This restaurant’s manager (the man with glasses) has demonstrated RACIST behavior, specifically towards Asians. (Several other 1-star reviews for this restaurant also highlight similar issues involving racism.)

I have visited this restaurant a few times, and my experiences have been troubling:

First visit: I went with a group of Asian friends. The manager’s attitude was condescending and dismissive toward us. Several of us felt uncomfortable interacting with him.

Second visit: I returned with a friend, and the situation was even worse. The manager insisted we could only place our order at the entrance, not at the table. Shortly after, a group of white customers arrived, and he greeted them warmly, escorted them to a table, and allowed them to order without restrictions.

After we placed our order, we noticed that all the other customers, including those who arrived after us, were served their food before us, even though we had ordered much earlier.

When I confronted the manager about why we were being treated so differently, he became visibly agitated and started yelling, claiming that he doesn’t discriminate. His defensive and aggressive reaction felt more like an attempt to cover up his actions than provide an honest explanation. Honestly, if there was nothing to hide, why resort to yelling at customers?

I have reported this manager’s behavior to the Ontario Human Rights Commission and other relevant organizations.

UPDATE: Despite these incidents, I have not received any form of apology or acknowledgment from the restaurant. Their complete lack of care for their customers only reinforces the discriminatory attitude...

TLDR: BEWARE OF THE ROACHES...

This is an updated review. This place has really gone downhill. A roach crawled out while we were eating. Absolutely disgusting. I jumped up from my seat and obviously had very little appetite after that. We called the waitress over who did not seem surprised and in fact when you search these reviews, this is the 4th review mentioning a roach. A staff member mentioned the restaurant was sprayed in the morning (Wed Apr 9th). If you spray your restaurant for roaches, you should be closing your restauant for the rest of the day. Imagine the amount of chemicals patrons were subjected to that day. Was all dishwear cleaned before serving food to us? Who knows. Before the roach crawled out, the waitress dropped some half eaten food, some of which went flying in the air and ended up in our food, we had to pick it out. Gross. The service was incredibly bad and the entire experience unsettling. Our bill was refunded but they kept the tip, which should have been refunded as well quite frankly. This used to be my go to Thai spot and despite my old review, below, I insisted my colleague and I come here. Never again.

Old review: I was utterly disappointed to learn this chain no longer stands out in its curries. Before, for instance, the beef consisted of chunks of soft, tender, beef. Now it's thinly sliced, like many of its competitors that were not as good. Sadly though, sukhothai has joined these ranks. The squash was undercooked. The medium spice level was underwhelming. Still a tasty curry in terms of flavor. But why did you have to change a good thing?

RIP the old beef red curry. I hope to find u again...

We had a disappointing experience at this restaurant on Saturday, November 1st, around 8 p.m. when we dined with our family, including two small children. One of the waitresses, an Asian woman with short black hair (above shoulder length), was extremely rude and unprofessional throughout our visit.

I think she is probably part of the owners family or maybe the owners daughter because she snatched the menu from the child n a way that only a crazy owner can do who is scared that menu might get ripped and they might have to buy a new one. Such cheap behaviour of owners.

While my two-year-old son was simply playing quietly with the menu, she abruptly snatched it away from him and gave a very unpleasant look, which was completely unnecessary. She has no manners. This is not how kids are treated in the west at restaurants. Her behavior was discourteous and made the atmosphere uncomfortable for our family. I wanted to leave

To make matters worse, she added an 18% gratuity for four adults and two infants even though we had clearly indicated we did not wish to leave a tip due to the poor service.

The restaurant should ensure their staff are trained in basic courtesy and customer service. I would strongly advise others to avoid being served by this particular waitress, as her attitude completely ruined our...

Normally a regular here and love their garlic beef but for the last two times I’ve been here (last week and this week) it has been disappointing. This location has always had issues with spice consistency but I’ve always given it a pass because how good the flavours are but now the flavours keep changing and the spice levels aren’t even spicy. My normal order is a garlic beef, Thai spicy but the last two times I’ve not even broken a sweat. Doesn’t even register. Last week it didn’t even taste like it’s done for the last few years I’ve been coming here. Today, we placed a large group order on Uber eats for around $500. People didn’t get the food they ordered, the food came late (missed estimate by 30 mins), and it was cold. My request for a reduction in the quantity of rice was ignored. And finally, the Thai iced tea had specks of what felt like curdled milk. I don’t know what it was but it wasn’t appetizing. Hugely disappointing. Not sure if the cooking staff has changed or if Chef Nuit, in her quest to establish her Thai empire has stopped quality control at this location. I will return, because I’ve often said how much I love the place and how often I tell people to come here. But I’m not sure if I can continue to return if this keeps up.

Another great Thai restaurant find in downtown Toronto! This doesn't mean that all Thai restaurants in Toronto are amazing, but this is one of the few that is known to have pretty good food. I, however had never heard of Sukho Thai before but was introduced to it by a friend. They do not take reservations, so we got there by 6pm and luckily got a table. It was fully occupied 10 minutes after. The place has a very tiny sign, which made it difficult for me to find. Also the inside is pretty tiny too, and not as fancy or over-the-top as Pai and Khao San Road. The menu was similar to Pai. I obviously went for the Pad Gra Prow with tofu and my friend got the Gaeng Kiaw Wan (green curry) with chicken. Service was great and prices were the same as every other place. My friend claimed to enjoy his meal. Mine was spectacular! Serving size was perfect, not too much. I still prefer the Pad Gra Prow from Pai and Khao San Road because theirs was less saucy, which I prefer. But this one was extremely delicious too! My one worry whenever I eat at Asian restaurants is that the food would be too oily from the stir-fry method of cooking, but there was nothing greasy here at all. Definitely worth going over and over again!
