Stayed here for 3 nights (Feb 21-24). I liked that the hotel has some character, especially in the lobby. The room was really nice for a Best Western, but ONLY on the 4th floor! I thought all the rooms have been renovated, but apparently only the 4th floor ones are, which are "premium" rooms with an extra $20/night. At check-in I was given a room on the 2nd floor, and I checked it out - it was very old and a bit run-down (with a ring of yellow stuff at the base of the toilet), so I decided to upgrade.
The new room was so much nicer! It was roomy, with a nice, large armchair, and a modern and clean bathroom. The room also had some nice touches, such as a ceiling light that really added brightness to the room (most hotels I've stayed at don't have ceiling lights!), and a kettle available upon request. There was also a good Nespresso machine and lots of bathroom amenities. I was also happy with the soundproofing of the newer room. Suggest a front-facing room for nice views of the city.
The staff was friendly, but service can be hit or miss. For example, when we arrived at the airport, there were no shuttle buses (because we did a regional flight from Dawson City) and no more taxis. I called the hotel and the front desk staff just told me to call a taxi myself without offering to do so. When checking in, the front desk staff member couldn't properly explain the differences between the new and old rooms, and couldn't match them when I showed the photos on BW's website. I often had to call the hotel repeatedly for the phone to be picked up. They seem to need an extra person manning the front desk...
Also, it was strange that the hotel, being a BW, did not offer complimentary breakfast. However, the 24/7 gym was a nice touch. Also note that Northern Tales' office is located within the hotel building, which makes taking tours with them more convenient.
Note that the elevator was being fixed while I was there. And a new Hyatt-brand hotel is being constructed beside the BW, which might cause some noise, but fortunately I stayed there before the...
Read moreI will never stay here again, or in Whitehorse for that matter. First, there is no parking for anything bigger than a small car, and that is street parking that is metered during the day hours. I was dropped off on the curb and our two moving trucks circled the block while I went in. They told me there was a fenced parking lot just down the road. Well, it was two blocks down, and the “fence” was a couple pieces of construction fence paneling near the entrance with the BW logo. This parking lot is also next to a walking trail, and a community building with a lot of loitering. Not exactly where I want to park all my possessions for the night! Anyways, we parked, and immediately started to get the ick and getting cased! Meanwhile, I was checking in. I pre booked a dog friendly room, which they didn’t read and put us elsewhere, so they had to adjust that. After taking my money and signing all the contracts, I’m handed the pet contract that states a dog weight limit. No where was this listed or mentioned before. Thankfully, they were ok with my big girl, but that’s all the props they get. Shes much quieter than the yapping ankle biters down the hall. We were placed all the way at the end of a second floor. Making trips to find grass(two blocks away in a different direction) quite the trek! The rooms pretty standard, had a slight smell to it, the fridge was pretty warm, only had two towels despite four people on the registration, and the water temperature in the shower was constantly fluctuating from freezing cold, to skin melting hot, then back to the set temperature. Once in the room and looking out the window, we spotted an empty spot a few blocks down that we could see from the room! We moved the trucks and my husband stayed outside with them for a bit. He was cased even harder! They even had the balls to ask what was in our trucks! Needless to say, we took shifts staying awake to watch our trucks while listening to sirens and crack heads screaming every hour or so. We got the heck out of dodge the minute timmies opened in...
Read moreI did a lot of research before booking this hotel in Whitehorse because I don't like to stay in dumpy hotels. There are not a lot of chains in Whitehorse but this one was a chain I've stayed at before and thought it would be fine. It also appeared to be centrally located and nicer than surrounding hotels. |The restaurant in the hotel is delicious and I wrote it it's own review praising the food.|Unfortunately the fridge was unplugged and we weren't aware so we spoiled a lot of restaurant leftovers by putting them in the fridge once returning from dinner and when we went to eat them for lunch the next day they were bad. I complained at the front desk and they reduced our room by $50 which I appreciated as we spoiled $40 worth of food. |The water pressure is straight up terrible. The shower head is a plastic old school style from the 80's or 90's it looks like. The water trickles out and I haven't washed my hair for four days because I know I won't be able to rinse it enough to get the shampoo etc out. Also the drain in the tub wouldn't drain, we left it with water and it never drained down and we had hoped it would get dealt with by house keeping flagging it but when we returned to the room the standing water was still there so I phoned the front desk. They sent someone up and they fixed it but then they were leaving and I asked if they could then send someone to wash the tub because it's had gross dirty water standing all day and he said oh I can do that and went back and cleaned it. It seems weird that they just assumed it didn't need to be cleaned. |The room aside from the shower has been fine, they must have a cleaning schedule that isn't daily as they didn't do house keeping on our second day. |Overall I probably would choose a different hotel next time just for the shower piece, but I would say this hotel is fine as long as it isn't costing crazy amounts. We got it for around 200/nt...
