My friends and I visited Puerto Montt and decided on Apart Hotel Colon for three reasons: free parking, central location and affordable room rate. As travelers, we are not in our hotel rooms very long since we are out all day and most of the evening. We want comfortable beds, hot showers and breakfast included, which we were pleased to get at Apart Hotel Colon. We also got a kitchenette, which we used to make hot tea and also to store our bottles of wine. While there was a small selection of snacks and beverages in the mini-frig, we did not have any. Parking was a bit confusing, as it is not well-marked, but is immediately to the left of the small lobby that leads the 7th floor reception area. A security guard is there to open the gate, so you just need to let him know you are checking in. As far as the rooms, they are not elegant and feel dated, but they are very quiet and fine for a short stay or good for a family, especially on an extended stay for shopping or holiday visit. There is no on-site restaurant, but the continental breakfast included with the rate featured bananas, yogurt, croissants, jams, apple juice, meats and cheeses. You can choose the time you want it brought to the room. Again, Apart Hotel is a modest place supported by a pleasant and accommodating staff. For check out, they take credit cards, which is good if you're not flush with tens of thousands of...
Read moreWe didnt expect to spend the night in Puerto Montt, so had not done much research into accommodation options. Using the Footprint Guide to Chile (not recommended either), we chose this hotel. Location is good and the reception seemed nice (if somewhat corportate - the "hotel is the upper few stories of an office building), but the room was pretty bad.||||It was large, but smelled terribly of stale cigarette smoke (and I'm a smoker...but at least have the decency to not smoke in hotel rooms). Furnishings were basic and in need of an update. It was nice to have our own kitchenette given we werent that inspired to go out to eat. Apparently, the hotel rents these "apartments" for longer stays, so the place has the feeling of a half-way house and the room felt and looked like the previous tenants had really made themelves at home.||||Still, for the price, we could have done a bit better - found something warmer, cleaner, and...
Read moreIf you think Chilean people are warm and friendly when you visit Chile, you'll be humbled by the staff in this hotel!||My son and I arrived quite early but Elisa, the sweet and lovely receptionist, made sure that a room was up and running within the hour. ||||Unfortunately, my son got a bit of a stomach ache from overeating this delicious food but Elisa came to the rescue by sending her colleague to purchase medication, had it delivered to the room and was sure to check up on us.||||And what can I say about Lidia, the room service lady.....Waking up with you at the door, holding our breakfast tray and seeing your contagious smile was a great start to the day.||||If I'm ever down this way, I'll definitely come...
