Hostal Doña Irma — Hotel in Punta Arenas

This is a wonderful hostel. We spent a week here including Christmas day. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom actually had enough counter around the sink to set things down. Water in the shower was hot and towels were provided. Breakfast is standard for South America, plus the lady who runs the place would bake some kind of treat every night for the next day's breakfast, very nice! ||All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and there are 4 cats living outside in the car port. The calico will even let you pet her.||The kitchen is well stocked and easy to use.||The only thing missing is a nice place to sit. The hostel is close to the main bus station and walking distance from the city centre. It is located in a residential area of the city and it's therefore quiet though close to nice places to eat or have a drink. Not always easy to find, you do not have to cross the canal from the bus station. We have corrected the location on Google map for the next ones ;) .||||The host is very nice and prepares a local breakfast with options. She also prepared us the breakfast earlier than usual to meet our early schedule. The place is very very clean and the bathroom in our room was quite modern compare to other places we stayed at during our 2 weeks trip across Patagonia. ||||Definitely a place to stay at Punta Arenas. Stayed in a private room with en-suite. Facilities quite adequate and the owner friendly and helpful. Breakfast was basic, but agin adequate. I don’t speak Spanish and the owner doesn’t speak English so it would have been difficult to ask anything too difficult for google translate. ||The big negative for me was the location of my room to the family living area. It was very noisy with television and random vocalisations (not talking but odd wailing sounds). ||There are other rooms (which may have shared bathrooms?)
