Opinion about Hotel de Almagro Unfortunately, my experience at this hotel was very bad from the moment I checked in. Here are the main issues I encountered: Front desk service: The person who attended me seemed uninformed about my reservation, as he asked if it had been made through an agency, something he should already know. This struck me as unprofessional. Problems with a simple cup of hot water: I requested a cup of hot water to prepare coca tea to help with altitude sickness. When the front desk staff saw that I had a thermos to keep it warm, he refused my request, saying they could only offer one cup as a courtesy and that I could not fill my thermos. This was completely unnecessary and inconvenient. If they limit the courtesy to one cup, they could have told me I needed to pay for additional hot water. I wasn’t asking for anything to be given for free. Room change request: I called reception to request a room change because mine had two beds, and I preferred one with a single bed. The response was negative, claiming that this was the reservation made by my agency and that they couldn’t assist me. At no point did they show any willingness to find a solution. Their attitude throughout was unhelpful and unpleasant. Lack of basic supplies: The toilet paper ran out, and the housekeeper did not replace it. Additionally, the room cleaning was subpar. It seemed like they had only made the bed, as the carpet was full of dust. In a place like San Pedro de Atacama, with so much desert dust, they should at least vacuum regularly.
In general, the service was terrible, and the experience left much to be desired. I would not recommend this hotel. I hope they improve these aspects to prevent other guests from having such an...
Read moreI stayed in the hotel for five days. The hotel is located conveniently in the center of San Pedro. The hotel area is quite wide an has a kinda hacienda architecture. It has a nice big and clean pool which is a good asset in the hot dry climate here. My overall impression of the hotel is fair. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable and the food from the restaurant is actually very good. We stayed in a room next to the pool, so we had short ways to pool and restaurant. The WiFi connection was good and sufficient. The rooms don’t have AC. But during our stay it was also not necessary to have it. Open windows at night allways provided nice and chilled air.The entire hotel area appears a bit worn. Some maintenance and painting would really help. The overall interior is lacking a bit of love to the detail. And that’s where the hotel is falling behind those nice boutique hotels and guest houses where San Pedro is famous for. The Bambus reception and bar rather look like a cheap Thai cocktail bar than an Atacamanian hotel. Also the restaurant atmosphere is lacking some friendliness. The staff is friendly but should be more attentive. What is really not convincing (but this is quite common in Latin America) is the breakfast buffet. Unless ur a colesterol and sugar addicted person you’ll have a...
Read moreOn the positive side, the location of the hotel right in the center of town is very convenient. The pool area is also fairly nice to sit in, although I wish they had more seats with cushions outside. The rooms are dark and not particularly nice. The location of the toilet in my room was right next to the shower, such that it was very difficult to climb in and out. At least one of the walls in my room was so thin that I could hear everything my neighbors were doing, including flipping light switches. There is also no wifi in the rooms and one has to use the internet in public areas. When lots of people are online, the internet doesn't work at all, which was rather frustrating on arrival because I was unable to communicate with the travel agency and find out when my tour started. Breakfast was decent, although they did not seem to plan well for the morning rush and all the bread rolls and eggs would run out within 5 minutes. The person at the check-in was very inflexible about check-in and wouldn't even let people access the rooms half an hour early. Yes, the stated check-in time is 3pm, but it seemed a little extreme to make people sit in the lobby and wait until 3pm on the dot when the rooms were clearly...
