The Hostel asked us to only post positive reviews and send any improvements privately. While we have shared our thoughts with them, we thought we had a duty to fellow travelers to leave an honest review here too.
We liked our room and found it very comfortable, large, clean on check in and like having such a good TV in our room. However, we'd have expected our room to be cleaned during our stay (at bare minimum the toilet bin being emptied each day). Afterwards the property said we could have asked for a clean for an extra cost but this wasn't advertised and we aren't sure why this wouldn't be something already included, like most hotels and hostels in the world... Particularly given the price of the room already. Additionally, we found the room to be a little cold at night, an extra blanket would have been nice.
We found the location of the property ok, we did want to stay near plaza Brazil. However we didn't find the street and surrounding streets to feel particularly safe. There is no signage to the hostel either, just a door with a tiny sticker with the hostel name on, so finding in the dark was a real challenge and made it feel more sketchy than perhaps necessary.
The property would benefit from having a 24 HR manned reception. Not having one made it feel very impersonal and it meant when someone rang the doorbell repeatedly to be let in at 1am we were awoken. They have a WhatsApp you can message, but it only operates between 10pm and 8am, so good luck if you need anything outside those hours.
Overall I think the soundproofing in the hostel was an issues, we read reviews about loud floor boards and thought how bad can be it... The answer to that is pretty awful. Bring ear plugs or hope they've laid some rugs by the time you visit.
The breakfast was also a little strange. They provide individual trays per room, that you have to get out the fridge yourself and do all the washing up etc. Everything is pre portioned and they aren't the most generous. We paid for a room with three beds for two of us but only hardly got enough food for two people. Additionally they said breakfast would be ready at 8am, which feels late given most hostels etc across S America and one morning when we went down in a rush, at 8.15, it wasn't ready... We had to wait for the guy to finish all the breakfasts for the entire hostel before we could get ours..
Finally, if you're in a room on the top floor and don't like cats, make sure the windows are securely locked. We were awoken at 5am to a neighbourhood cat on our bed one night. We like cats so wasn't too much of a issue but a bit strange that the cat managed to push open our window and climb in...
Read moreSweet hotel in Santiago de Chile. The room was very spacious and comfortable. It was equipped with a heater, small lamps, mirror, etc. Though you need to wait few minutes for hot water, it worked and was very warm. The hotel had also a hairdryer on demand.
The living room and the kitchen were very nice too. The owner should however turn the heater on at the moment since it was very cold, especially during the breakfast. The breakfast was included in the room rate but could be a bit better (or at least ask if the guests are vegetarian…). Otherwise, we had access to access and could cook. Coffee and tea are available all day long :) the hotel had the best wifi we had in 8 months travel through South America (200Mbps).
The only negative point was that we had to pay an extra fee $10.000 Chilean pesos for late arrival. Otherwise, we definitely recommend the place. It’s very close to the last bus station Heroes from...
