Hostal Chaptex 1440 — Hotel in Valparaíso

I've been travelling South America for 3 months now and have a pretty good idea of what to expect from hostels, and this was by far the worst thing I've ever lived. When we arrived they messed up our reservation and blamed it on us. We were then showed our room options and both rooms had so much dust you could see it from where we were standing, topped with lots of feathers on the covers. The bathrooms are shared and as the door opened a smell of dead people or an 100 year old man came out... As all hostels were booked we tried to negotiate a lower price, which caused the owner to get angry at us... we then got told off for saying it was too expensive and that the bathrooms were smelly. Lastly, the next morning we also got told off and yelled at for skipping breakfast... Apparently breakfast is mandatory here and not just included....

I arrived with a friend only to be told the reservation from booking was received late and they did not have the room we had booked available. We were shown what was available (everything but the room we had booked seemed to be available) and let me tell you I was shocked. The first room we were shown was a quadruple room drowning in dust amd feathers. The shared bathrooms were both unbelievably smelly! We felt sick from the smell without even entering. We eventually were shown a room which had a window and negotiated a lower price. The owner ended up telling us off for telling him the bathrooms were smelly and we thought it was overpriced for what it was. We both felt so uncomfortable and did not have breakfast the next day. When leaving we were told off for not having breakfast!! It was a very uncomfortable and unpleasant stay to...

We excepted a standard double with an ensuite : the shower did not drain well, so we were standing in shower water. The room had a door and small window that opened on to a hallway, so we had to keep the curtains and door closed for privacy: the window did not open: so we did not have fresh air or natural light : the room was bunker like. We were not impacted by the street noise that we heard kept other guest up until the early hours, Its hard to find anything positive to say, other than the owner tried hard to be a great host and the breakfast was fresh and included eggs, bread, rolls...
