In case of emergencies after shops closed... 24 hr pharmacy 15 min walk from hotel: cross Wangfujing street and keep walking for 10 min. until you come to the next big road, turn left where you should see a green cross. Ask concierge if uncertain.
Sanitary napkins are sold by convenience store around the corner. (Ithink 24 hrs but definately open until late).
Excellent location close to Wangfujing street. Thank you, Felix from Concierge for excellent service!
Spacious rooms, we had a quiet room towards main entrance.
Strong perfume in lobby unnecessary - this seems to be a trend which will hopefully soon be over again.
Breakfast ok. Nothing fancy but egg and noodle station, warm food, 2 coffee/capuccino machines, fruits , pastry, cereal.
You may want to try the various types of breakfast, e.g. at Yin San Douzhi (take the bowls with and without peanut plus the long bread and the pastry which looks like onion rings, they have more tables on the second floor. Go early or stand in line. If there walk to and through the shops selling produce. You can also pick up buns in the supermarket to make your own gua bao like we did. Hehe)
...or jianbing, a crepes type food with egg eaten on the street. Try it with crispy wafer and Chinese sausage - but bite well or the piece will slip out like mine. The 5 second rule does not apply haha)
Also great: Siji Minfu (try the salad of greens mixed with crispy something, amazing. They also serve the fried remains of the Beijing duck but really salty.),
Amazing: Jubaoyuan halal char coal hot pot in the Muslim district (order mutton -the best!-, lamb, beef and the sesame buns, put in the fatty roles first but dont eat those, the put first the mutton and eat it, then the lamb and eat, the green leaves come with it into the hot stew, because if you put beef first it will foam. After finishing take spoons of the soup without the fat and put into the rest of your sesame dip, the eat that soup with the sesame buns at the side.
For Beijing duck nearby go to Quanjude.
For lean Beijing duck and really nice presentation go to Dadong. The jellyfish in vinegar is excellent, too.
For visiting the Palace Museum (which is the same as the forbidden City) I suggest going with a tour, e.g. on Klook or Trip advisor. Careful. There are lots of other offers which may trick you. Reason for tour: they will take you in a special lane past the thousand people waiting to enter Tiananmen square. Book EARLY !!! And nowadays those tours do not include the watch museum and the wall of the 9 dragons. You need a separate ticket.
Great Wall: against popular advice we went to Badaling. Due to popular advice there are no foreigners but of course plenty of Chinese tourists. I suggest taking the cable car up if you are uncertain about your physical condition. In any case you can expect to be surprised by the Chinese elderly keeping up with you on those up and down stairs.
Temple of Heaven: go early (7.30) if you want to see and join (!) the folks practising their daily routine if Tai Chi. People are welcoming if you are respectful and you will feel part of the experience. A smile and a nod...
Read moreWhile the hotel is well-located and the apartments are spacious, our stay was unfortunately overshadowed by a very negative incident mid-stay involving the Food & Beverage manager – an experience that, in our view, does not reflect the standards of a luxury Marriott property.||Earlier in our stay, we had no issues using the globally valid Marriott Associate Food & Beverage discount during breakfast. However, one morning, this suddenly changed. The F&B manager approached us and refused to honor the discount, claiming it was not valid at this location. When I politely explained the official policy, he reacted in an arrogant and dismissive manner, raising his voice and repeatedly stating that he was “the boss” and knew the rules.||He also claimed that the discount was only valid in the restaurant, implying it did not apply to breakfast, which is clearly incorrect, as breakfast is served in the restaurant and the policy states “food and beverage,” not “à la carte restaurant only.”|To make matters worse, he began asking inappropriate questions about our check-in and check-out dates – something far outside his responsibilities. We ended up leaving the breakfast area upset, stressed, and without eating. No apology followed. In fact, the next day he actively avoided us and was no longer wearing his name tag – despite having worn it the day before, which Marriott policy requires.||This behavior is absolutely unacceptable, especially from a manager. Whether due to a lack of knowledge or a willful disregard for Marriott policy, treating guests – especially long-standing Marriott associates – with such disrespect is a serious breach of the “Spirit to Serve” that Marriott is known for.||Another point of disappointment: Despite being Bonvoy Gold Elite members, we were denied our benefits without clear explanation. While they are officially “subject to availability,” in our experience, most Marriott properties try to honor them wherever possible – especially the more luxurious hotels. In this case, even a 2 p.m. checkout instead of 12 p.m. was refused. When asked why, we were simply told, “It’s the hotel’s decision,” with no further reasoning. Frankly, we see no logic in denying such a simple benefit, and it left us feeling unwelcome and undervalued.||This was not a bad stay overall, but it left a bad taste – and for a premium hotel charging premium rates, that should never happen. We sincerely hope the hotel management takes this feedback seriously and ensures that staff behavior and loyalty recognition meet the global standards Marriott...
Read moreUnfortunately, I had a rather disappointing experience with this hotel. Firstly, when I checked in, the girl was running and re-running my credit card to the point that my bank blocked the card. The bank contacted me to ask what was going on. I finally sorted this out and got to my room. There were used towels on the floor, and the room seemed not to have been cleaned properly. The food was good - better than other hotels I have visited in China. I f nd the staff rather rude and not interested in helping you. On the second day of my stay, I found an insect bite on my arm. I had been walking around and assumed I had been bitten outside. On my second overnight stay, two more bites appeared - all seemed the morning after I had been sleeping in bed. By the time it was time to check out, I had six insect bites, and they looked awful. I covered them up, checked out, and booked a taxi to the airport. I got back to my home safe and sound. My friend and colleague saw the bites on my arm and immediately informed me that they were bed bugs and that I had caught them from the hotel. I washed all my clothes, and my friend and I had some bug spray and sprayed all the contents that had been at the hotel. On reflection, I saw it my duty to inform the hotel of the infestation. I emailed them. Initially, they were polite and apologetic and offered me a free hotel room and breakfast. I was instructed to send images of my bites, which I did. I then received another email that apologised again; however, they only offered me a free breakfast, which I am extremely insulted by.All in all, this is the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I would not advise going to this hotel. I can understand that hotels will get situations, but they did not seem to care about cleaning rooms or the welfare of...
