This guesthouse is located in the legendary Chungking Mansions (made famous by the 1994 movie Chunking Express) in the heart of Kowloon's Tsim Sha Tsui, close to all the facilities such as the underground, bus stops, star ferry etc. The Mansions hosts a multitude of nationalities (according to recent reports more than 150 different ones!) who run their own businesses in the building, from shops, souvenirs, restaurants and guest houses: a city in the city, which is already an experience itself. Of all the guest houses I have been using the Dragon Inn for the past six years (and I have tried many of them!), and this one stands out for a couple of extra reasons: it's clean, compared to other guest houses here the cockroaches are really reduced to the minimum, and the rooms are cleaned daily; the place is secure, I have always been confident in leaving my personal stuff in the room while gone for the whole day; it's located on the third floor of the building, which means you don't need to waste time at the elevator (always long queues there), you can just take the side entrance and go up by stairs. However, don't forget is this a budget accommodation, as elsewhere in Hong Kong, rooms are small to the extreme, as are their bathrooms; if you are not too picky about space (and don't suffer claustrophobia), dont really care about extra facilities... This could be a place worth a couple of nights. ||The owner (a true Dragon lady) so it can be really though when bargaining for a room. ||||Overall it's one of the best places to stay if you are on a budget, that is why I have been going back over and over again for the...
Read moreAfter a hiatus of six years I was compelled to come back to the Dragon Inn (it was a last minute booking, and nothing else available).|It was an interesting experience to come back to a place where I have stayed so often... nothing has changed, only the place and personnel got older and... forgetful. |Amazing to see the Dragon Lady (the big boss) acting like an almost senile forgetful trembling old lady, having difficulties to understand simple things like “the wi-fi in the room doesn’t work” (which really didn’t), but regaining all sobriety when talking about payments. |We booked a 3pax room, but the second evening we only found one of the three towels we used to have... which was not handy to find out when the office was already closed. Strange scratching sounds from behind the wall woke us up in the middle of the night, and found that rats were trying to get in the room through a with-tape closed hole in the wall (see pic). I tried to inform the Dragon Lady, but she pretended not to understand (“no rats here! My place clean!”). |We just stayed two nights, which was more than enough. |Overall the place has a good location and quickly accessible by stairs (it’s on the 3rd floor), underground, main bus-stations and the Star Ferry are all a few minutes walking. ||Tip: there is an elder man working in the guesthouse, he is smart and easy to talk with. Try to deal with him rather...
Read moreWhen I informed the owner that I would be checking out two nights early, she became enraged and slapped herself in the face several times. ||||Pointing to a wall in her office full of pictures, she asked me why in the world I didn't like her hotel when so many people (including a few half-celebrities) had stayed there and loved it. She then proceeded to slap herself in the face once or twice more while making a couple of pointed comments about my nationality.||||I asked her for the key deposit back (100 HKD). She refused to give me back the deposit, saying that I'd get it back after staying two more nights like I'd originally planned. Finally her assistant gave me back the deposit and I left.||||I would caution people to think twice before staying here. The owner was extremely rude, unwelcoming, and unstable. You and your money deserve better. There are plenty of other budget options in...
