The Kowloon Hotel is situated on bustling Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, housed in an 18-story building with a glass facade. The interiors are well-maintained, well-furnished, and modern, but the overall look isn't as fresh or as chic as some other hotels in the neighborhood. The lobby, which has a shiny, textured glass ceiling, and the cafe, with huge windows overlooking Nathan Road, are among the more attractive public spaces. Given the hotel's size, it gets a fair number of tour groups, and common areas can become crowded and hectic. The hotel mostly draws leisure travelers seeking a stay with a prime central location.|The Kowloon Hotel is in an outstanding central location in the Tsim Sha Tsui on Nathan Road, the main north-south thoroughfare that runs through Kowloon. There are numerous high-end shops here, and on Canton Road, which is about four minutes on foot. The Kowloon Hotel–Nathan Road bus stop is outside the hotel, and Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is directly connected to the hotel's lower level, about a two-minute walk away. The Hong Kong Space Museum and Hong Kong Cultural Centre are both within a three-minute walk. The Avenue of Stars, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Clock Tower, Kowloon Visitor Center, and the Star Ferry on Victoria Harbour are all about five minutes on foot from the hotel. Hong Kong International Airport is about 25 minutes by car, or guests can take the free city shuttle (there's a stop outside the hotel) to Kowloon Station, and then take a 40-minute Airport Express ride to the airport. |Guest rooms at The Kowloon Hotel are sleek, with high-quality furniture and luxurious fabrics, but they're missing accents that capture the eye's attention, which makes them feel a little uninspired. Still, they're warm and inviting, with natural light pouring in through floor-to-ceiling windows, flat-screen TVs set into mirrored panels spanning walls, and beds that have tall, dramatic headboards. All units have desks with ergonomic chairs, electric kettles for instant coffee and tea, slippers, and safes, and some offer partial views of Victoria Harbour. However, they don't all have minibars, and Wi-Fi -- which some guests say can be spotty -- isn't included in all rates. Bathrooms have design-forward basin sinks set into marble vanities, hairdryers, showers, and some have bathtubs and/or bathrobes. The Executive rooms feature living rooms, and Harbour Club rooms on the upper floors come with a ton of freebies, including a breakfast buffet, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails and appetizers, plus ironing service and shoeshines.Rooms range from 215 to 517 square feet, and while they aren't particularly small by Hong Kong standards, they're somewhat awkwardly configured and have little floor space. Read moreI chose The Kowloon Hotel for my stay due to its incredible historic vibe, its demographic features and its good service which cannot be beaten by most 4-star Hong Kong hotels at similar price range.
The Wonderful Background - The Kowloon Hotel was built in 1986 by a company which was incorporated in 1866 as The Hongkong Hotel Company Limited. This company, owned by the Jewish Kadoorie family, also built The Peninsula Hotel in 1928.
I returned to Hong Kong with my sister for family visit in early Feb this year. I booked this hotel room for 1 month through the hotel webpage and got some terms and conditions finalized with the hotel manager by email.
After taking a long flight, I arrived at the hotel smoothly by the airport bus. It took only 10 mins for checking in, very efficient. In order to have more free space, the deluxe room was changed to the one with a king sized bed instead of 2 single beds.
The hotel staff was very thoughtful to provide a room with harbour view for my monthly stay. I cannot help to share some photos captured here.
Although the room is located at the entrance of the elevator, but it is not noisy at all. Only some little chatting voices were heard in some mornings.
As a tourist/ traveler, you will find not only the location of the hotel is very convenient for transportation, but also for dinning, entertainment, shopping and exercising. What can I say? The Kowloon Hotel is in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Instead of seeing the hotel room is old/ aging, as a 4-star hotel room, I would say the room construction is at its high quality hotel standard with good maintenance.
The bed frame and mattress; the wardrobe with nightgowns; the marble bench top in the washroom, the large glass writing desk, and the double layered curtain ETC…. are equipped for the residence’s luxury comfort and relaxing who stay in.
The room is thoughtfully equipped with air freshener, microwave and even a vase upon request.
I also liked the hotel restaurant providing high quality dinning experience with discount for the residences.
If you value the archeture of a real hotel room and service of a 4-star hotel, The Kowloon Hotel will not let you down.
Finally, I really appreciate the hotel staffs’ hard working in this ever-challenging hotel business in Hong Kong, i.e. day-to-day high customer turnover rate, high expectation, high competition and less than optimal economy in Hong Kong.
Hope more visitors can find the good value of this hotel. I will definitely come back to visit this hotel from year to year.
P.S. The first 3 shared photos are the outlook of the Peninsula Hotel bathing in sunshine. All photos are taken through the window of my room in The...
Read moreI will not stay in this hotel anymore and will definitely not recommend it to anyone.
I chose this hotel because of its location and how the mrt is just connected to their basement. However, it has proven to be such a huge disappointment. The room is small and is poorly kept and has poor sanitation. The service is terrible. Front desk barely answers calls, aircon is broken, fluctuating internet connection. I reported about the internet and was told to just go down to the lobby to use the wifi. 🤯
And the worst was that I woke up one morning to a flooded room. Carpets are soaking wet. This is the second room they put me in.
When I first arrived, which is almost midnight, they gave me a room that has a seriously leaking faucet in the bathroom. They send someone to fix it. The plumber reported that the leakage can’t be fixed and that I have to be transferred to another room but I was told to wait and that there are no rooms available. I called and called the front desk but they never picked up so I had to pack my things and go straight down to the lobby to “demand” for a room change. Finally, I was transferred to another room. This other room is the one I was referring to that got flooded.
On the day that the room got flooded, I called the front desk immediately but nobody came to check on the situation. I waited for more than 20 minutes before someone came to check. Their housekeeping staff finally came to check and then left. After she left, no one called or assisted me or even offered to transfer me to another room. Again, I called the front desk but nobody answered. So, I had to go down to the lobby to “demand” for a refund because I do not want to stay in their hotel anymore. They said that the reservation is non refundable. I said I don’t care because I still have 8 nights to go and I cannot bear to stay in their lousy hotel anymore. To cut the long story short, they negotiated for me to pay for just one night of my stay and then refunded the remaining 8 nights.
A hotel is a traveller’s home away from home. It is not enough for a hotel to just have a good location but lacking in amenities and...
