Maple Leaf Guest House — Hotel in Hong Kong

Very bad! Very very bad… why? Because we wait for so long out side of thier hostel. We used doorbell so they know that they have customer but no one open the door, we knock but no body answer, we call on the telephone that they put outside the door but it was not ringing. We keep trying until the phone rang. I talk with the owner of the hostel and I told her that we wait for so long. We stand out side but instead of apologizing to us.She reply very rude😢😭😭😭 she said why we didn’t call her and why we didn’t scan the WhatsApp so I can communicate with her. I reply to her that I don’t have internet yet. And she said you’re FILIPINO and I said yes and sounds she discriminate us. MY GOD WE ARE FILIPINO AND WE ARE TRAVELLER. And the worst thing there’s no BATH TOWEL FOR US😭😭 because she said we book cheap hotel so they don’t provide towel😭 I was shock because I travel so many countries and this is the first time I experienced like this. And it’s not my fault why the price of her hotel is cheap. Trip.com know that I am traveler and I used this platform to book hotel and ticket… I will never ever book this hotel again and I will post this hotel to my social media account so, all my friend has plan to travel in hongkong they will not book this hotel. I know Chungking Mansions is supposed to be a backpacker's place, not a luxury hotel like the Sheraton, but I was still shocked that the room was so small, only big enough for one person to stand except for the nightstand and bed. I guess you could call it cozy. Indeed, you get what you pay for.

But certainly I didn't pay to see two cockroaches. I killed one in the bathroom and the other hid behind the nightstand. The floor was also dirty and you could see all the dirt and gunk on the edge between the floor and the wall. It seems that for them cleaning a room consists of just a light sweep with a broom.

The service was also very slow. We specified two guests in advance when booking, but there was only one set of toiletries and one pillow in the room. We had to wait an hour for staff to bring a pillow. Unbelievable.

Additionally, I would like to report their dishonest business practices. We arrived at 10:30pm which I guess was pretty late so we were assigned a room in another hotel next door. I guess they were overbooked and sold our reservation to another hotel on the same floor. I've skipped a lot of Chungking Mansions hotels with bad reviews because I was hoping to get a cleaner room. Therefore, I would recommend anyone arriving late at night to completely avoid all Chungking...

If you are looking for a budget option and are willing to stay somewhere a little away from the main drag then this is a good choice. This hostel in located in Chungking Mansion on Nathan street. If you are unfamiliar with how mansions in asia work, then this will be a shock to you. It is located in a much larger building that is broken into towers with close to 20 floors. You enter on the ground floor and have to go through crowds of people and businesses to get to the elevator for your tower. This includes many people trying to solicit or sell many different things to you. The chungking mansion in particular is infamous for its age and criminal activity. Keeping this in mind, if you are aware of your surrounding and smart, you will be fine.Our room was very clean and functional with no issues. We shared a triple between two and there was enough room to move about and get ready etc. Compact and basic but I didn't expect anything else.
