Golden Guest House — Hotel in Hong Kong

I already wrote a review (cleanliness, staff & location) in the website were I made the booking, however I am obliged to make another review as I only found out today the scam this hostel did. When we arrived in the hostel, the staff asked us to pay in cash the total amount to be paid for our stay. I told them that it is already paid when I made the booking. But he said it was not taken by the 3rd party booking site as the card was to guarantee only the booking. Good thing I used a prepaid card and was able to check if it was not really debited. Since we do not have extra Hkd to pay in cash, I asked the hotel to take it from the same card used, they agreed and requested an LOA from me with copy of my card. He showed me their list that the amount was already deducted. Everything went well during our stay and didn’t think about my card since I know I am secured as I gave them a prepaid credit card. Until today when I am about to use my card ( (I usually check how much is left before using/topping up) I was surprised that it was NEGATIVE and I owe money from my issuing bank. Of all the bad reviews I've read with Chungking Mansions, this hostel has proved us wrong. Location was good because just across the street is the MTR and bus stops. There are also a lot of stores surrounding the place and even inside Chungking Mansions. Very accessible. When it comes to our room, we were surprised that they provided toiletries including slippers and everyday they changed our bath towels and emptied the trash can. Plus, universal adapter was also provided. Despite of our small room size, our room was clean and has airconditioner, electric fan, heater, TV, Wi-Fi and fire alarm. They also have refrigerator, hot water for drinking and hair blower outside the room. The owner and lady cleaner were very nice. They also allowed us to check-in an hour early and allowed us also to leave our luggages for few hours after our check-out for 50HKD. Over-all, we were very much satisfied with our stay. You get what you pay for. The location is excellent. Right next to one of the central stations in Kowloon, walking distance to Temple night market area, bars and restaurants, shopping, etc. Short train ride to pretty much anywhere you might want to go in HK. The room is absolutely tiny, there is no natural light at all, the bed is small and not super comfortable. But it's way cheaper than any other options and the people who run it are nice and take good care of what it is. Our blankets were always folded, we got new (tiny) towels every day.
