Be very careful when booking properties located in Chung King Mansions if they are being offered at a low price on websites. Chung King Mansions consists of 4 blocks with 16 levels. On most levels in each block there are locked apartments containing 4 or 5 individual rooms with a tiny bathroom, that call themselves Hotels/Hostels/Guesthouses. |We made a confirmed booking weeks in advance which was cancelled by the property on the day we were flying into Hong Kong. When we arrived at the apartment we were rudely told to go away as the rooms were full. We had 2 options - return home or book alternate accommodation within the building being offered by touts at exorbitant prices. Needless to say we were not the only victims as we spoke with other travellers in the building who had a similar experience. We cut short our visit to Hong Kong as our accommodation cost us an extra HK$ 500 a day.|These are some experiences of travellers who booked accomodation within the building (2 of them are mine)|1) Guest turned away from the properties as their "credit card was declined" |2) Pay an additional 20% on arrival due to the high demand for accommodation|3) Nobody opening the front door or answering the listed number when you arrive |4) Cancellation email sent on day of travel|All travellers are then approached by touts offering alternate accommodation at...
Read moreGreat location, however the lifts system is horrible. 1 small lift to get to your floor in a huge multi use building, so there is almost always a long long line up to get on the lift on the ground floor, and it's even worse to get down from your floor, as it often won't even stop at your floor when it goes by as it is already at maximum weight coming down from higher floors. Room was so small you can't swing a cat. Beds were as hard as concrete. Bathroom is so small that you have to practically shower on top of the toilet and small sink. A larger person wouldn't fit it is so tight a fit too. The beds are short, so if you are even above average height, your feet hang off the end of your bed. Worse if in a bed where you have a wall at your head and feet end too, as you can't lay straight as it is too short. Was clean enough, but wasn't serviced for our whole 4 night stay. Walls, furnishings and bathroom fixtures were in a bit of disrepair. Staff was very friendly, however we were told that they had to turn a lot of people away due to it being a busy time, so not sure you could trust making a...
Read moreThe staff at the property, she is great. Super friendly and helpful and really looks after everyone at the hostel. She makes everyone feel welcome and deals with issues straight away as best she can. ||She is the only good thing about the place though. It has obviously fallen into disrepair, everything is old and broken, there was only one bathroom on the floor I stayed, which was the toilet as well and it didn't work properly, literally standing over the toilet to shower. Soap and stuff was provided but I never felt clean. The building is really dodgy and there is often yelling and drunk people around the property. I often felt unsafe, which is saying something for a 6'3" guy. ||The other guests were friendly enough and the location was pretty good for access to Hong Kong Island and Kowloon area, only about 8 minute walk to the ferry terminal and right out the front of the MTR station. ||If you're looking for a really cheap place to crash and you're too drunk to care, or don't plan on staying long then maybe you can consider it, but...
