The Center (Cantonese Yale: Jūngwàahn Jūngsām) is the fifth tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong, after International Commerce Centre, Two International Finance Centre (88 storeys), Central Plaza and Bank of China Tower. With a height of 346 m (1,135 ft), it comprises 73 storeys. The Center is one of the few skyscrapers in Hong Kong that is entirely steel structured with no reinforced concrete core and is one of the tallest steel buildings in the world. It is located on 99 Queen's Road Central in the Central, roughly halfway between the MTR Island line's Sheung Wan and Central stations.

The English name of the building uses the American spelling "The Center", despite most similarly named buildings in Hong Kong using the spelling "Centre" because of Hong Kong English's British origins. The direct translation of the Chinese name of the building is "Central Centre" or the "centre of Central", though the building is situated near the boundary of Central and Sheung Wan (Wing Kut Street). The Center was designed by Dennis Lau & Ng Chun Man Architects & Engineers.

The footprint of The Center is irregular because surrounding lots in Queen's Road Central, Jubilee Street, Des Voeux Road Central and Gilman's Bazaar were already redeveloped. The construction of the building involved the Land Development Corporation since it required demolishing many old buildings and lanes. Various lanes and streets including Gilman Street, Wing On Street, Tung Man Street, Hing Lung Street, and Tit Hong Lane were shortened. Many cloth shops located on Wing On Street, also known as Cloth Alley, were moved to the Western Market while Eu Yan Sang, a traditional Chinese medicine shop, was moved near the Stag Building. Several historical structures were demolished for the project.

The Center is notable for its arrangement of hundreds of neon lights arranged as bars in increasing frequency towards the top of the building, which slowly scroll through the colors of the spectrum at night. During the Christmas season, the building's neon arrangement follows a festive motif and resembles a Christmas tree.

The building uses a sky lobby system, where users wishing to reach the upper floors of the building must make several lifts changes. One set of lifts leads from the ground floor to the 6th floor; a second set of lifts provides access from the 6th floor to the 42nd floor, and a final set provides access to the floors above.

In November 2017, it was announced that the center was sold for HK$40.2 billion, making it the world's most-expensive real estate transaction for a single building. It was reported that Li Ka-Shing’s CK Asset Holdings sold the building to a BVI company called CHMT Peaceful Development Asia Limited, which is thought to be led by state-owned China National Petroleum...

You know when you travel as a tourist and there's this one place in every city where you feel invisible as if you're a ghost watching the living go about their daily lives? The Center is that place in Hong Kong for me. Great for people watching and observing local Hong Kong life. We sat in one corner (because our feet hurt from all the walking we did) and were able to see poeple doing their 'thing'. Two westerners eating burgers while having a hearty chat, a chinese-looking guy using one hand to scroll through is phone and the other to puff his cigarette, eager teenagers passing by going into the building entrance, and tall older fella (maybe in his 50's) dressed as if he's about to go into an important presentation. It's like seeing all walks of Hong Kong life in...

The world's most expensive office building is a great address in Hong Kong. The building as such has a distinctive design, by day and by night. The lobby is spacious and spreads over a number of floors. There are some sandwich places in the lobby area. Also, DBS has a large branch on the ground and lower ground floors. The building has a separate drop of area off the road for private cars and taxis, which is great for traffic around the building as the road is not obstructed. The taxi stand is on Queens Road and is well frequented by taxis, for both HK as well as Kowloon side. The views from the offices in this building are magnificent. All around the building you have nice cafes m, bars and restaurants. Escalators take you down to Des Voeux Rd Central and...

Nice and central location. While from outside looks as a very modern building in the side is more of something from the 80s. The toilets in the offices is really messy and require manual keys to open toilets which people end up forgetting inside. The view from some of the offices and meeting rooms are spectacular on a nice and sunny day! There is little selection of restaurants in the building only Cafe de Coral, Prêt à manger and a cedele plus a Coffee Pacific. Nothing really local and nice for lunch.

Finally left my workplace in this office building for relocation. I miss this place, colleagues and the great restaurants nearby. This building was built in 1998, made of steels for the exterior design. There are gates for reading IC card/ QR codes in order to reach lift lobbies. The staff are professional. One drawback of this office building is the location. It is situated near the boundary of Central and Sheung Wan. It takes me around 10 mins walk from either Central or Sheung Wan MTR station.

A composite building consists of retail, office and institutional/NGO and kindergarten at different entrances. It faced with Queen’s Road Central and Des Voeux Road West. It is developed by Urban Development Council (now known as Urban Redevelopment Authority), a quasi-government body with statutory power to resume land. The site where the building situate are old streets selling piece good and sea sailing supplies, etc. which form part of the history of Sheung Wan.
