🍜🌟 Heavenly Broth at Zagin Soba 🌟🍜
My visit to Zagin Soba in Sheung Wan was a delightful experience, especially due to its rich and creamy chicken broth, which is among the best I've ever had. The restaurant is a popular spot, especially busy at night and during holidays. For those looking for a quieter alternative, the Happy Valley branch is a good option, though the Sheung Wan shop's bustling ambiance adds to its charm.
The restaurant's specialty lies in its delectable chicken soup ramen, a dish that perfectly balances creamy richness without being overly heavy. The chicken pieces in the ramen are tender and moist, enhancing the overall flavor profile of the dish. The seafood broth option also offers a thick, flavorsome experience, with a nice blend of shrimp flavor.
Despite its popularity, I managed to avoid a long wait by arriving at 5pm, but by the time I finished my meal at 5:30 pm, a queue of about ten people had formed. This is a testament to the quality and popularity of Zagin Soba. The menu, although not extensive, focuses on delivering quality over quantity, making it a must-visit for ramen lovers in Hong Kong.
Overall, Zagin Soba is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking authentic Japanese ramen with a unique, flavorful twist in Hong Kong. The combination of delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and excellent service makes it worth a visit, and possibly even a wait...
Read moreSo is it soba or ramen? Who cares? The noodles are deliciously chewy and come in a large portion, the broth is thick and packed with chicken goodness, and the restaurant decor is woodsy yet contemporary. Probably the fanciest ramen shops I've been to, and the prices reflect that. For one order of the dip ramen, I can get three bowls of beef brisket noodles with wontons (my benchmark). But you don't get the same level of service (who does cost an extra 10%), a broth that probably took half a day to prepare, wet tissue, green tea, an envelope for your mask, and even a paper bib. I'd rather they not serve all these extra amenities -- save money and the planet -- but that's the level of dining experience they're aiming for. Lastly -- and maybe you could ask for it but they didn't ask me -- I would've preferred my noodles hot. The broth wasn't particularly hot, which meant the cold-ish noodles easily cool it to the point where once both are in your mouth, everything is just lukewarm. And the pork was super thin, and you only get a slice or two. There's a few shreds of chicken in the broth. So you're mainly stuffing...
Read morePlace has a real authentic feel to it. The menu is really simple with basically five items on the menu: chicken broth or chicken tsukumen soba, seafood broth soba, fried chicken and rice dish. Food is really good and service is efficient. Good place for lunch for a quick bite and not really a place to have a long conversation with friends.
Food: 4.5 stars Value: 3.5 stars Overall: 4.25 stars Recommendations: Chicken broth soba
The broth of the chicken based soba is really rich and has a nice depth of flavor to it. The noodles really soak of the the flavor of the broth while the fried sweet potato chips give some nice crunch and sweetness to the dish. The seafood based soba was good but a bit too salty for my taste.
The price is a bit high (138 per bowl and 15 to add a soft boiled egg) for what you get, but I will comeback again to try the fried...
