If you are not traveling alone, I strongly advise you do not go with their Deluxe tier, which is their lowest tier room. There is quite literally only two steps worth of room between the room door and the foot of your bed, and half a step between the beds. Opening a luggage case would pretty much make it impossible to move without issues. As soon as we saw the size, we immediately went back down and asked to upgrade to the next tier, which was the Superior tier. It was 220 HKD more per night, but we gained a lot more room as seen in my image. There was actually enough space to leave a couple luggage cases open and still freely wander the room, which to me is a big deal. I'd hate to have to open and close my luggage every single time. So that's that on the room size.
The rooms are fine for the price, in my opinion. The beds are firm, and the pillows are a bit firm as well. The bathroom is a bit small, but not too much of a problem. The bathroom is separated from the rest of the room through glazed glass, so there's enough privacy, although you can definitely see more of a form, so if you're the embarrassed type or you are traveling with someone you would mind seeing your obscured form through glazed glass, you might be a bit bothered by it.
There is no ready hot water in the shower. There is a switch to flip to get the hot water heater started that takes about 15 minutes to fully heat, so plan your showers ahead and hit the switch when you get back to the room or first thing in the morning.
The staff is very quick to respond to requests. All the various requests I made for towels and toilet paper were fulfilled within 10 minutes, which was nice.
They have a bag hold service for your last day if you want to wander about before you hit the airport.
The hotel is indeed located smack in the middle of a very busy wet market, so if you're on lower floors, I imagine you'll hear quite a bit of the daily hustle and bustle of citizens buying their meat, fish and produce for the day. I thought it was great because it meant I was right where the action, living among the locals and their daily life. For those with sensitive noses though, the entire street essentially smells like a fish and meat market. Also, if you're squeamish, you'll be seeing lots of various fresh pig and cow organs on hooks hanging all over the markets.
All in all, I found it to be a great hotel. It's only a block away from the MTR station, which is HK's subway system and it's on the same block as a 7-11 for convenience store needs. The only drawback I'd say is that there's no major sights on this side of HK island. All that stuff is either past Causeway Bay to the west or up on Kowloon, so be aware and plan...
Read moreRoom: Looks old and worn. Scratches and tears on the wallpaper, dents and scratches on the floor. It has a shallow table, but enough to put a laptop. Plastic chair that comes with it is stiff and uncomfortable but if you're not sitting here for long it's fine. They don't provide you with a closet for clothes but gives you a few worn hangers. Has a kettle, tea, safe and mini fridge. There is a couch here but looks worn, has a few stains and sagged.
Cleanliness: Floor was not entirely clean, a few hairs and... unknown bits and pieces around. You wouldn't notice if you don't explicitly look for it. I would not walk on the floor here barefooted, but they do provide those thin flimsy slippers for you.
Bathroom: Has unruly stains, but doesn't get in the way of you using it, clean to somewhat a minimum. All in all, if you don't look for it, it's fine, but it doesn't make me feel relaxed or comfortable that I want to stay any longer in there. Look the other way, clean yourself and get out.
Bed: Again, you can see signs of use (fabric pilling) from the bed sheets and pillows. I found one strand of hair but that's it. The blanket is really comfortable. The pillow I had was comfortable.
Noise: I stayed at the 9th floor so the hustle and bustle from the market was inaudible, but the soundproofing from the lobby... might as well say there isn't any. I can hear staff RAMBLING and LECTURING (maybe to a fellow coworker) outside my door while they bang their stuff around in the morning. I got a corner room that is separated from the others so I can't talk about soundproofing in between rooms, but noise from outside the lobby was horrendous. The fridge in my room was making ticking noises (probably fan) and I had to wake up to turn it off.
Internet: Works, not too fast but able to stream content. Unstable at times. Ethernet port is out of order.
Location: It's right outside a wet market. I grew up going to wet markets so the smell doesn't affect me as much, but your mileage may vary. You might... get cockroaches and smells if you're at a lower floor. It's close to a MTR station, has a selection of slightly pricier modern cafes and cuisines, and also cheap HK style places around. Very close to Taikoo mall is a plus.
Service: Staff here have a hard time dealing with rude people, but they try their best. Check in time is 2pm and if you come earlier they'll store your luggage for you until you're ready to check in. There is a deposit of...
Read moreDo not choose this hotel even if you are on a budget, there are way better 2-3 star hotels than this one. 3 main problems.1. Room service comes only once every 4 consecutive days of stay, which is fine for a 3-star hotel, it becomes problematic when they would not give you an extra/replacement towel when u ask them to due to this policy, and guests are only informed of the fact via a notice in their rooms. (Not even upon check-in where we could at least get a heads up) (photo of the notice attached) So if you are only staying for 3 days, and u drop the towel and would like an extra one, they would not give you one, and instead say that you have to buy one (which happened to me).2. Cleanliness problemThe cups and teaspoons are not cleaned. They don't even try to hide it. Visible marks can be seen on them clearly indicating prior usage, rather disgusting.3. Extremely poor lightingThe whole room is dimly lit, giving the hotel room a very sketchy vibe. To the point where I thought there was something wrong with the bathroom lights. Maybe it is to mask the fact that the rooms are poorly cleaned. Other issues: - The double bed has a hard surface straight down the middle when I lay on it, giving the feeling that it is just 2 bed frames pushed into one. - I was reminded by the front desk as well as another notice in the bathroom that a switch must be turned on 20 minutes before a shower to ensure that there is warm water. And that after 15 minutes of showering warm water is not guaranteed. - Even after I have done that, the water temperature is not consistent throughout my showers, with there being sudden coldness and hotness.- Unstable Wifi connection (I am not taking the piss, the wifi connection really is poor)Personal thoughts:- The notice regarding the housekeeping service, as well as the notice for the shower situation, all begin with "this is done to be more environmentally friendly". I understand that this isn't a five star hotel, but addressing these obvious flaws of your hotel by simply brushing it off as trying to be more environmentally friendly is disingenuous. This is not caring for the environment, this is budgeting through the negligence of your guests' basic needs.- Decently lit rooms, warm water without time constraints, clean utensils, decent wifi, and extra towels when asked is something that any 3-star hotel can offer, just...
