If you appreciate art and history, check out Hong Kong's newest contemporary art space Oi! - perfect with or without the kids!
Just walking around Oi! is worth the trip. Built in 1908 as the clubhouse of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Oi!'s three buildings are of Arts & Crafts style, all beautifully restored. A large lawn dotted with mature tree tie the complex together, and provide an oasis of green in otherwise densely urban North Point. There are a few outdoor art pieces on display, and best of all, the staff encourages walking on the lawn.
Oi! works closely with sister organization Hong Kong Visual Arts Center to provide a contemporary art space that encourages creative experimentation and collaboration. Oi!'s first exhibition, Embark! Beyond the Horizon, features four artistic interpretations of Oi!'s past and future.
Kids will love Yuan Gong's use of fog machines, and you will be moved by Tsang Kin-wah's footage from the 2011 Japan tsunami.
Oi! is located in North Point next to the former Oil Street Art Village, Hong Kong's first art community to have evolved organically. It is a gorgeous space to enjoy as a family,...
Read moreThis Hong Kong Grade 2 status historical building with Victorian style and Chinese rooftops changed into a small Art museum. Free entry.
They will cooperate with different artists for art exhibitions in different period. I quite like the recent topic : Dress in Time They stitched Hong Kong stories on the recycled clothes. I highly recommend tourists can have a look. You can walk into blue area to see clear every detail on the clothes.
However, here is some of my suggestions: Guide not so clear in this museum. Especially the Chinese words exhibition one. I am difficult to follow. Mostly the art description should place near the Art🫠 No regular activities. You can’t book the experience activities via official website. As a tourist, joining regular activities are easier to arrange the itinerary. Not enough promotion. Not many people/ visitors know this relaxing place. Even this small museum, this is better to provide a briefing tour on specific time-slot to introduce this building’s story and current exhibition .Now, I just search Wikipedia to understand the background...
Read moreI stopped by whilst taking a walk around the North Point and Fortress Hill areas. I really enjoyed it. Hip, urban art space. An oasis of peace in the middle of a busy area. There was a Warehouse or an exhibition hall, a Lounge where you could take a break and simply relax and a Garden as well as other areas too. I browsed through a few very interesting exhibitions which were all free of charge. I believe they also host various programmes and community projects. Easy to navigate. Clean. Information is in English as well. You can connect to the complimentary WIFI within the grounds. Staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly. Oi! is housed within a Grade II historic building that was once a yacht club clubhouse. I come to Hong Kong often. Whilst I wouldn't put this on the top of your list, I would certainly recommend going if you have time, have an interest in the arts or like me, just...
