first time leaving a one-star review.
shocked by the next-level poor service. 無語
my mum and i came here for mid-autumn festival dinner - the restaurant looked pretty legit. while ordering, we tried to consult the waiting lady for advice (in fluent cantonese) as we didn’t know the menu well.
initially she give us a couple of short answers but after hearing my mum and i speaking our native language between each other, she left immediately with impatience. everything went downhill from that point.
at first we assumed she might’ve just been busy, but she wasn’t. she was just standing there.
after finally figuring out what to order on our own, we called her over again. we were told one of the items we wanted was sold out (we weren’t informed prior) so we asked for suggestions on a similar dish.
i didn’t hear her properly on the first go so asked her to repeat, once. and she shouted it out with extreme impatience and left, right away.
at this point, both my mum and i were shocked and confused, also starting to lose our appetite.
we tried to order a replacement dish and realised the dish she recommended was a completely different type from what we originally wanted.
meanwhile, we were just left sitting there, with no follow-ups, nor offer to help.
we’ve lost all the appetite and decided we were just going to drink tea and rest for a bit.
eventually she came back confirming the order with the same impatient tone. after hearing that we don’t want to order food anymore, her attitude softened a little all of a sudden. she mumbled that then we should leave. we said we’re still drinking the tea we’ve already ordered. before we could finish, she left.
the next 10 minutes was just very confusing as she and her colleague, male, (who was also trying to wave us out, asking us to leave while we were still drinking tea) came to our table saying random things and left repeatedly, one after another.
side note: there was no queue for the restaurant and it wasn’t full.
the lady returned again with a softer tone and suggesting us to order a fried rice. after we said we don’t want to eat anymore, she asked us to pay for our tea and leave but not allowing us to even finish the cup?
we said that her attitude was throwing us off. she responded: my attitude has been more than good enough, and started blaming (or gaslighting?) us for taking a long time to order, while she kept leaving our table without trying to listen to us, let alone trying help us out with the menu.
we eventually left for somewhere else afterwards.
this was hands down the worst experience i’ve ever had. on top of this festive day, it’s even more heartbreaking, realising that all might’ve started from the very moment when my mum and i started communicating in a different language.
dining is more than just about the food itself, it’s also about the mood, the emotions and the overall experience.
shame that this...
Read moreContext: I'm a tourist and visited this dim sum restaurant near my hotel even if the Google review ratings of 3.8 didn't seemingly sound too positive.
We reached the restaurant at about 10.30am on a Saturday and it was already brimming with many locals and it was almost packed. We were quickly ushered to a table that was being efficiently cleaned up like the cops had come to inspect on illegal hawkers. Once a clean table cloth was laid, the servers basically threw the order sheet and new crockery and utensils on the table like they too had to run away from the cops. We found it all very amusing, and if this was the usual practice in authentic dim sum restaurants, we were more than happy to experience and be immersed in it.
After ordering tea, we were given two teapots and a bowl. One of the teapots contained plain hot water, which we took to mean it was to be used to clean the utensils in-situ or inside the bowl (we were pleased to be proven correct after having done so and witnessed others doing the same.) There is also a water filling station if your tea runs out.
We ordered six items, four savoury and two sweet. Portions were larger than what we have back in Singapore, and filled with lots of ingredients. While a little too salty, the sweet items (the Malay cake was the outstanding item) made up for it, so did the red vinegar sauce.
Expect everything you should expect in a traditional dim sum restaurant with good food and not breaking the bank or feel you got ripped off with low quality food - if you don't...
Read moreRang the restaurants a few times to book a table for parents, obviously the manager was busy, couldn’t bother too much what I was trying to pre-order for the dinner, at the end, 4 signature dishes were missing! It left my parents and their guests with a birthday menu with no fish, no prawn, no beef or noodles… Deeply disappointed with the impatience of the staffs, no one seems to have time even to listen to what customer said, no one bothered to check if the menu was correct. Parents have been there many times for dim sum, but for proper Chinese dinner, will stick to good Chinese restaurant in hotels, this kind of local restaurant is lacking the service and details which completely ruined the experience! Very...
