We’ve been to Macau many times and each time we go it was mostly day trip. This is the first time we decided to stay in Macau for 2 nights so we could immerse ourselves more with its culture, scenes and just take our time. We never studied about the 2 sides od Macau - Taipa and the city. But luckily I booked Holiday Inn Express located right at the heart of the city where Grand Lisboa and the famous St. Paul Ruins are just walking distance. We booked a ferry from HK to Taipa but just now we learned if your staying in the city the closest in Macau terminal. From there instead of taking taxi we took a bus so we were wrong but it was a great learning experience to find our way to the hotel. Taxi from Taipa costs around 80 to 100 mop only but it was still a great learning experience taking the bus. We alighted near Holiday Inn the main one and from there you can walk to your left towards Avenida Rodrigues. The hotel is on the corner and is near a lot of convenience stores and supermarkets. Check-in was fast and smooth and to our delight we were upgraded from our Double Bed Standard room to a much bigger one but I forgot what room type because I am an IHG member - so better be. The lobby is modern and cozy but the lounge area is a bit small although they have a mini pantry area on the left side upon entering where the complimentary juice drinks are located. I loved their colourful lounge chairs across the check-in counter if they could put another one it will be more useful. The 3 lifts are modern with a techy hologram effect of their brand and we didn’t experience significant delays despite their fully booked since its the start of the Golden week. We were booked on 6F facing the opposite side of the hotel where we could see Santa Rosa Academy. The hotel is a bit pricey at 315 sgd for 2 nights with breakfast because of the brand name, however, it serves its purpose. Only thing they have no gym nor pool which they could add in the future. The room is quite big, clean, cozy, modern and spacious. Even though we were upgraded we are still on Double bed but no complaints. It serves the brand and we got a beautiful room they provided. I also loved their blue firm carpeted flooring of the room which adds a tone to the White theme of the room. Upon entering toilet is on the right and it has no tub, very big, spacious and has bidet which is a plus for us. They provide Tresemme toiletries which are really fragrant and aromatic including the hand wash. They provide complete toiletries and amenity kits plus complete set of clean and comfy towels and hair dryer. The Grey tiled flooring is not slippery and the water pressure is strong and heating is easy to manage. The transparent thick plastic wall of the shower allows the lighting to display which serves like a lamp at night and gives a warm lighting effect of the overall room especially when you turn off the other lights which is a bright idea. In front of the toilet is the huge wardrobe with tons of compartments complete with slippers, safety lock, and lots of hangers. I loved their slippers because their thicker than the usual disposable ones and they come in 2 colors - brown and black. Mini-bar is also beside the wardrobe with mini-fridge, kettle and complete coffee/tea/glass/mugs. I especially loved their Tea selection. There is a wooden luggage rack beside it and plenty of space on a blue carpeted flooring. They have a huge wall mounted TV but still not smart so maybe they could upgrade this one. WIFI is also a bit fast which is another plus. And of course the star of the room - the High Double bed with soft, comfy, clean and good smelling blanket and 4 huge pillows on a perfectly soft mattress - this is the cherry of the room!!! On each side of the bed lies side tables with bed lamps and a spacious compartment below. One of the most comfortable and relaxing bed we ever had at par with 5 star hotels if not eve better. I loved that they have a soft cushioned headrest which protects our head and allows us to sit by it. The 4 pillows really sealed the mark because they add extra level of comfort and relaxation. So the bed is the best part of the room. Beside the table near the window is a wooden study table with a small round Apple Green cushioned chair and a mini-black table lamp. There is a black out curtain and an off white see through curtain with a view of the school and its surrounding buildings. Our view is of the opposite side of Avenida Rodrigues. I find the chair quite small compared to the big room. Air-conditioning control is located at the wall beside the mini-bar and easy to manage.||||The hallways of each floor are quite unique because of the vertical design of the building. Their modern, Grey carpeted and with Blue glass columns at the center with warm lighting effects. Breakfast is served at their 3F cafe and is modern, spacious with both outdoor and indoor options. The white glossy wooden tables and Green toned colors of the chairs set the Green and Grey them of the dining area. They offer wide variety of Western and Asian dishes. Our stay was fully packed so the restaurant is busy but luckily we didn't have to wait to get our seats. Aside from the usual||- breakfast buffet choices of bread, salad, coffee/tea/juices, fruit, yoghurt and mains like fried rice, siew pao, mantou, noodles, sausage, hash brown, beans, etc.. for IHG members if I am right they also provide complimentary noodles or soup of your choice, signature coffee like cappuccino and how you would like your eggs served. I tried the Fishball noodles and both their omelette and sunny side up eggs and their both freshly cooked and delightfully yummy. Cappuccino and Latte is also hotly and perfectly made and served. And on the 2nd day, I tried the Pork Luncheon meat macaroni soup. I would say the former is better, fresh and tastier than the Pork macaroni soup. It was pre-Golden week holidays so the cafe is packed with all the tables occupied even the outdoors. I loved how they assigned tables for their patrons so everything is in order. The staff were mix of Filipino, Chinese and Locals to cater for their customers languages and needs. All were very friendly and helpful. So if you ever book Holiday Inn Macau Express then do include their breakfast options. On our 2nd, day we needed an umbrella because it was raining and Holiday Inn provided for us which is a good job here!!! Upon our check-out on our 3rd day, which was also pretty smooth and easy, we left our baggages first and on retun we stayed in their pantry to kill time. We asked for help to book us a taxi to Macau International Airport and the lady staff (date is 4/29 afternoon) who could speak English helped us to book a taxi. At first she told us to wait for 5 mins while waiting for a driver but we decided to get the taxi ourselves. Then after 10 mins of waiting taxi in front of the hotel the Lady staff came back for us giving us the taxi plate # and color of the van. What a thoughtful gesture she gave us saving us time hailing a taxi by the road. Truly a remarkable character displayed by the helpful and thoughtful Lady staff who booked us our taxi back to Macau Airport!!! We are truly humbled and grateful for her utmost exceptional customer service provided to us. She really took care of her customer first. We forgot to get her name but Holiday Inn Macau express if you’re reading this she deserves a bonus or promotion for this!!! So there you go - Holiday Inn Macau Express city center deserves an Exceptional review for all the tremendous and unwavering service they provided in our short stay here at their hotel which we will never ever forget!!!
