I stayed at Kaps Place for a month in August-September, 2018. The contract I signed specifically stated: "We require a security deposit of US $200 in cash to cover lost or damaged items." Even though there were no "lost or damaged items" involved and no "disrespect of policies/guidelines," at checkout I only received $20 after Karolina offered bogus excuses to pilfer $180 of my security deposit. As a matter of course, Karolina has contrived false reasoning to deduct from my security deposit (left in good faith). I have stayed (monthly) a number of times at Kaps Place over the last 2 years. Having a very positive nature, I have refrained from any negativity. However, when Trust/Integrity becomes an issue, it is critical to pass along information.||||Interestingly, if you analyze the TripAdvisor ratings for Kaps Place, you'll notice that the Poor & Terrible comments are directed toward Karolina's terrible customer relations and outrageous approach to money maters; whereas, the Excellent & Very Good comments relate primarily to staff performance.||||Please note that I have entitled this review as "Part 1" of my feedback; there will be further detailed items in...
Read moreKapsplace is a homey oasis in San Jose. I have been visiting Costa Rica a few times per year (for mission work) for the past five years and every time I land at Kaps I know I am home. This family owned business is run with integrity and love. Karolina, Marino and Jose Luis REALLY care about providing everything their guests need. Unobtrusive but helpful at the same time. They all are passionate about hospitality and excellence. If you are bringing a team to CR, then you should absolutely reserve this location. The accommodations are simple but comfortable, restful, colorful and fun. Beds are comfortable and showers are HOT with good pressure. The kitchen is ready to meet your needs. My 30 person team is always excited to get to Kaps. Within walking distance of the restaurant district if your tastebuds crave something unique. Karolina can also arrange airport transportation which is so helpful in CR. (Promised rental cars are not always available when you arrive in high...
Read moreWe came to San Jose after staying a month in Cuba, which was rather shocking in regard to price/performance and that you always had to negotiate about everything. So probably this review is a bit biased ;) About the hostel: from outside it looks quite small and uninviting, but once inside it changes to a small Oase in this - in my taste - dirty city. It always smells wonderful, the staff was always very friendly to us and we could ask them everything we wanted. Best service was that they made photocopies of our passports at 23.30, which we needed to enter Panama, even though we had to pay 1000CRC, how awesome is that? :) the common area with hammocks, billiard and table-tennis was also quite nice and we really enjoyed it. The room was clean and and fulfilled our needs and was quite cheap! Overall we would go here the next time we are in San Jose in 100 of...
