My Go-To Culinary Experience in Costa Rica

This isn’t the first time I’ve been to this restaurant, far from it. Every time I’m in San José, or whenever I want to plan a truly special date, coming here is one of those things I just can’t skip. It has become a tradition for me, because every visit feels like a new journey.

The concept is contemporary Costa Rican cuisine, deeply rooted in traditional flavors but reimagined in a creative and surprising way. This time I experienced their six-“times” discovery menu, based on the idea of Sinestesia (synesthesia). It was magical; each of the five dishes felt like a chapter in a story, using local ingredients in ways that played with not just taste, but also sight, smell, and even emotion.

What makes the experience even more special is Fabián, the owner. He is genuinely sympathetic and welcoming, taking the time to explain the dynamic of the evening, the menu itself, and each one of the dishes with passion and clarity. You can feel how much thought and creativity he puts into every detail, and it adds so much to the experience.

I’ve been here many times, and what amazes me is that it never loses its charm. Each menu is different, but the quality, warmth, and creativity are always there. The service is impeccable, attentive without being overwhelming, and the atmosphere is intimate and inviting.

For me, this is one of the best culinary experiences not just in Costa Rica, but anywhere. If you’re in San José and want something unforgettable, this is the place. it’s worth every second, every bite and...

Extremely disappointing! Had been waiting to try this place after a friends recommendation and what a disaster. The chef and staff has recently changed. Food: looked good and presentable BUT it ends there. Mismatch of too many flavors, definitely not Costa Rican cuisine which is known for distinct and simple flavors. the octopus and the trucha in starter was overcooked, the shrimps and corn in main course was extremely salty. The worst part is that me and my friend are both sick with nausea and stomach ache. Maybe it wasn’t even fresh. Have never felt sick after eating at a restaurant in Costa Rica. And I have eaten at a lot of places here The service and ambience: We should have run when I saw the place so empty. The staff was indifferent. Didn’t offer any explanation of the dishes, didn’t check for allergies and when we mentioned about the starters they didn’t offer any feedback. Didn’t ask for any feedback though we left the food. Didn’t even bother to fill our glasses with water. The music was so off and odd for this place. Seemed like they were being forced to work and wanted us out. Complete indifference.

It left us with such a bad taste and stomach that I can’t even think of anything nice about the food. Complete disaster. Wouldn’t...

Not an exaggeration, this restaurant is my favorite that I have ever been to in any country, and I've now been here three times in the past year. 11·47 is a small place available only by reservation, with room inside for just 12 patrons at a time, but the atmosphere is beautiful, colorful and sophisticated. The food mirrors this, with beautifully and creatively executed meals. I recommend partaking in the 5 or 7 course meals, where you will be served seasonal chef's creations. The portions are perfect and you will leave full and satisfied. The flavors and textures are like nothing I have ever experienced, and that is a compliment to the creativity of this place. The owner will likely be the one to serve you, happily explaining what each course contains in either Spanish, English, or French. If you're staying in the area, make a reservation and you won't be disappointed.
