Please don't listen to the reviews that call this hostel a scam. Stay here if you want a room in a large, comfortable flat with a very friendly and enthusiastic Croatian. He has lots of recommendations for you and the location couldn't be more centrally located.
Accommodations are modest and inline with the price. If you prefer a more upscale experience, then locally-owned hostels may not be your cup of tea, and that's okay! For me, this was perfect for the night.
I rented a bed in a shared room. I ended up meeting a lovely Dutchman who was enjoying his last night in Split. There is a window AC unit, access to a washer & clothesline, hair dryer, hot shower, clean linens & towels, good wifi, a small terrace with lots of plants, & a power strip by each bed. There are two toilets, one with a shower. For the men's bathroom, the host will ask you not to close the door fully because it slams and one of the private rooms is right next to this. My bedroom locked and so does the bathroom with the shower.
I found this place through Hostel World's website, where the reviews are very positive, but I just called once I landed to secure a room. You need to pay in cash, euros or US dollars are accepted. There is a 50 USD deposit for the key and the full amount was returned to me with no fuss in the morning. The host stayed on site in his private room, because his family was on vacation for the summer, so he said his flat was a bit too quiet. I had nothing but a positive experience and felt completely safe....
Read moreREAD BEFORE RESERVATION: we booked reservation via Booking, where the name of object is Riđi (this is probably to find the information harder-see below). The guest house is a big flat in a house from 50/70s. You have to follow many rules from eccentric host e.g. don't touch this, don't use this. There are many old furniture covered by dust, family pictures- you totally feel like in a museum. There is a kitchen but you cannot cook, you can only make coffee but don't use the cups. You cannot close the door to WC cabin (even close, forget about locking) because it makes too many noise. The bathroom mostly needs a renovation. The AC installation don't allows to close the window, so you hear street noises in the morning. You have to pay 100eur of deposit in cash and are afraid of each move in order to get the money back. The host cancelled our reservation during our stay, so we cannot write a comment on Booking (where are only few comments and only positive) ! The only pluses are good localization and possibility to find free parking place around the house. The host seemed to answer many questions and invited us...
Read moreThe owner tried to force us into cancelling our reservation by threatening calls, very odd and to be avoided by all. Be careful!||||Said that we don't want the accomodation actually because it is small and has shared bathroom, and asked forcefully to cancel it, then hung up. When asked to cancel it on his end to save us the cost (since we were okay with the shared bathroom and 6m² of space), he said okay, but didn't do anything, causing us a lot of stress about where we would sleep tonight. After, he did not respond to us, did not respond to people from customer service. ||||Very...
