We spent 5 nights at this hotel for our anniversary recently. Here's my honest review.
The good: *The hotel is in a very picturesque and quiet area with easy access to public transit. It's a beautiful walk downhill to many of Prague's most popular attractions but you'll definitely want to take a ride back up! *The front desk staff were very pleasant and provided a nice check-in experience. *The WiFi works well and seemed to be reasonably speedy.
The bad: *The hotel is in need of a refresh. The furniture in the room gave off a "well used" mid-90's - wood everything - vibe and it was worn down with scrapes, scuffs, burns and stains. *The carpeting was so worn down that you couldn't make out the patterning anymore in the trafficked areas. *The "mini bar" was nothing but one bottle each of water, Coke, Pilsner Urquell beer, and orange juice. There was a charge sheet that listed some food items but they were nowhere to be found. *The "coffee service" is just a hot pot with some powdered instant coffee and mugs. *The TV remote was so worn out that all it would do was turn the TV on and then you had to use the buttons on the side to change channels. *There was no Chromecast (Hyatt says there is supposed to be).
The ugly: *The temperature control was non-existent. When we arrived the thermostat indicated that the temperature was 24 C (75 F) which is too warm for us to sleep comfortably (for reference, the outside temperature that night was around 7 C (45 F). It will allow you to adjust it up or down by a maximum of 3 C which would have been OK if it had worked but it didn't. Instead we ended up just opening the window (which has no screen and turns off the heating and cooling automatically) to try to finally get some sleep. I asked the front desk about it the following morning and they informed me that there's nothing that they can do because it's an old building and it's either set to heat or cool for the entire property. Thank goodness it wasn't summer! *There were bugs. One that fell out of the bath towel, a spider in the corner of the shower, dead flies in the window sill etc. *Nobody had cleaned under the bed in a LONG time. Dust, odds and ends from previous guests, you name it. *No wash cloths. I'm not sure what they normally use in Prague but when we requested some it seemed like nobody even knew what they were. We had 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels, and 1 floor towel for the entire stay.
Summary: The hotel was adequate as a place to sleep but it fell far short of what it should have been (and was promised to be) for that price and star level. Hyatt really needs to step in and clean up a few things if they want to keep charging any more than about $125 a night for this place. There are much nicer hotels in the immediate area for what they're...
Read moreGreat hotel, located a bit away from the craziness of downtown Prague. It is part of an old monastery, which makes it a really nice and quiet location to relax after a long day in town. If you don’t mind walking a bit, the city Centre is in walking distance downhill (just keep in mind - you have to walk this hill back up ;-))
The positive points: The reception team has been very friendly and helpful every time we contacted them, and we were very lucky to have our rooms ready before the official check-in time. All of our 3 rooms were located next to each other, which we really appreciated.
The cleanliness of the rooms and public areas has been impeccable. The rooms interior might be a bit outdated, but the condition of the furniture and the quality of the bed, pillows etc. was really good.
Another great point - this hotel is really dog friendly and the extra charge for the dog is fair.
Parking is available directly at the hotel but I would recommend making a reservation, if you travel by car, to ensure that a space is reserved for you.
Unfortunately, there have been a few downsides though:
The fitness center and sauna area are relatively small, nothing special.
The F&B service was terrible. We dined in the hotel on our first night, and the staff was more busy joking with (or about) the guests, than actually serving drinks or food. My mum’s order has been forgotten in first place and then was served COLD (!!) about 25 minutes after everybody else’s food. This is unacceptable for a four star hotel. We’ve been served a bottle of wine as apology (after we heavily complained that the food wasn’t served yet), which we appreciated, but it didn’t really made up for the ruined dinner experience. Also, we’ve been very happy that we didn’t book breakfast, as every morning on our way out we saw how the staff was overwhelmed by the amount of guests. So, if you are looking for some good food and beer around the hotel, I can recommend the monastery brewery close by, and for breakfast, there are also some cafes around (we tried Café Melvin, they were really good and also much cheaper than the hotel breakfast).
All in all, we were very happy with our stay though, and would definitely choose the hotel again for a...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place. Reviews are mixed but thought it was worth the try since I had some Hyatt points I could use. Unfortunately the rooms do not meet the Hyatt standard. The room we were originally given had mold everywhere in the bathroom- the walls, alongside the tub, and all over the shower curtain. Furniture is outdated and the room was very dark all the time due to a tiny little window with almost no natural light. We asked for another room because mold is pretty unacceptable. I had my disabled mother with me and that kind of mold exposure would have been really unhealthy during our three night stay. I even inquired about paying a little extra for an upgrade which was totally ignored... maybe because I had used points for my reservation. They moved us to another room that was much smaller with a double bed. The room was dusty and had a weird smell. The lights didn't work properly with the card and flicker on and off randomly. The A/C was stuck on full blast. Thankfully they were able to fix the A/C but they didn't even try to fix the light situation. I didn't have the energy to bother them for another room change. Moving my mother from room to room wasn't an easy task and we just wanted to get on with our stay in Prague. Upon checking out, the woman that helped us was very kind and thorough since there was an unknown charge on our bill. She also helped us get a taxi to the airport. We were very thankful for her help! The breakfast is way over-priced. There's another small cafe just down the street that serves an amazing breakfast for half the cost. One morning we ordered two coffee's at the bar and we were charges $12 US dollars. I give the hotel three stars because of the person at the front desk at check-out. Her service was above and beyond, and we were very grateful. The location was nice with a tram stop very close by; however, if you have any mobility issues then this location is not for you in any way. Steep hills in every direction and Uber will only drop you off outside of the hotel and a little down the street which is an uphill trek. It's not hard, but if you have a mobility issue then it simply doesn't work. I wouldn't...
