This is still my favourite in Prague, in a superb location right next to the castle. And now with the added bonus of less surly bar staff. I have always visited this pub every time I have been to Prague, but the service has often been slightly aggressive, with a few sarcastic comments and 'attitude' thrown in. In particular, an elderly barman, who we named Mr Grumpy, would get extremely agitated if you moved his menus, and he would slam them down on the table if you did so... but that was all part of the experience :) And the odd fit of temper was always worth it, because IMHO this is the best beer in Prague (go for the Kozel light beer). Last time I visited I didn't see Mr Grumpy, so perhaps it was his night off? Also, I was served by a friendly young gentleman, who, when realizing I was British, asked if I wanted to see the English menu. Having said that, just a few words of Czech will go a long way here. And whatever you do, do not go here and order a bloody mary. Go here, try to find a table, sit down, put a coaster on the table, and drink the beer. You...
Read moreU Černého vola is my secret place to go EVERY time I am in Prague. Perfectly pored dark and light beer and a traditional chech bar cusine. I love it!
U Černého vola is an outstanding beer place in the heart of Prague, Czech Republic.
The interior is beautifully decorated with a traditional Czech ambiance that truly captures the essence of the country's history and culture. The staff is very local and does not speak languages, but they have a card you can look at and translate yourself.
The food at U Černého vola is traditional beer place food, featuring a range of traditional Czech dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. The menu includes meat dishes, including saussage, herring, cheese plate and scrambled eggs.
Overall, U Černého vola is a fantastic bar that offers a truly authentic Czech dringin experience. There are far more locals than tourists. The food is surprisingly good, the ambiance is authentic, and you feel embedded in the Chech culture when having this great beer and a little...
Read moreSmall place with a small bar / counter. Half the tables here were reserved. The sole thirty something year old guy behind the counter with old school bilateral tribal calf tats was not very friendly at first but hustled to keep the flow. I had the Kozel beers, actually served cold The menu's in Czech and is pretty limited. So don't expect restaurant style choices. You can get a klabasa with bread and mustard, may be some thinly sliced ham and bread with a pickle. They also have a pork schnitzel that's not bad...and served hot.
You're sharing the four large tables in the backroom with others...which is actually cool. They do not take credit so cash only...prices are good for the neighborhood. Three stars for the attitude, the limited menu and limited seating...and the cash only...
